Congressman Moran Votes to Protect American Election Integrity

Moran: The SAVE Act is an Important Step to Ensure Every Single American Vote Counts

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Nathaniel Moran (R-TX-01) spoke on the House floor to applaud passage of legislation that he cosponsored to protect the integrity of American federal elections. H.R. 8281, the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, introduced by Congressman Chip Roy (R-TX-21), passed the U.S. House of Representatives on Wednesday by a vote of 221 to 198.

“Preservation of our Republic necessitates free, fair, and honest elections,” said Congressman Moran. “As I’ve said a number of times as a County Judge in Texas, what we need are SALTY elections – Secure, Accurate, Legal, Transparent elections with ‘You,’ the American citizen involved in every step of the way. Right now, in America, there is growing distrust in election results because of growing abuses and documented instances of election fraud. And yet, there are continuing efforts to allow illegal immigrants to participate in our federal elections when it is already against the law. This is incomprehensible to me.”

“The SAVE Act makes commonsense reforms to preserve integrity in our elections,” continued Congressman Moran. “This bill requires proof of citizenship when individuals register to vote and removes non-citizens from voter rolls, ensuring accountability in our federal election process nationwide. This legislation also empowers citizens to a private right of action to bring civil suits against election officials who fail to uphold the proof of citizenship requirement for those registering to vote.”

“By passing the SAVE Act, the House has taken an important step to ensure every single American vote counts with full measure. I applaud Congressman Roy for bringing this action,” concluded Congressman Moran.

Since the beginning of 2021, more than 10 million illegal immigrants have crossed the border into the United States. Amid growing abuse of the American federal election system, the House passed the SAVE Act to preserve election integrity and ensure only eligible American citizens vote. This bill requires proof of citizenship be presented in person upon registration to vote and makes certain that non-citizens are removed from existing voter rolls.
