Congressman Moran Releases Statement on Government Funding Plan

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Nathaniel Moran (R-TX-01) released the following statement after voting to support a negotiated plan to keep the government funded, ensuring Republicans can immediately begin work to implement Trump’s America First agenda in 2025:

“I was absolutely opposed to Wednesday’s more than 1,500-page continuing resolution because I could not support a massive spending bill that was simply a Christmas tree full of ornaments in runaway spending and pet projects to empower government bureaucracy. On Thursday, I voted against a second proposed measure that would have lifted the debt ceiling for two years without a cap, encumbering future generations with untold amounts of debt without securing adequate policy wins or spending cuts. As a fiscal hawk who knows that debt and spending are some of the greatest enemies of the American people, I have consistently voted against measures to raise the debt ceiling. My vote against Thursday’s debt ceiling increase reflected my firm belief that conservative principles must be applied consistently and equally.

“Today’s negotiated legislation meets my stipulation that Congress NOT increase the debt ceiling—a move that would allow a blank check to fund years of future wasteful government spending—without being accompanied by meaningful spending cuts or adequate policy wins. Today’s measure will hold us over until the incoming Republican trifecta in January so we can be prepared to fully engage to undertake President Trump’s America First Agenda on Day One. This legislation also prevents the costly reality of a government shutdown—something that would cede lots of additional authorities to President Joe Biden and Senator Chuck Schumer in their last days in power and that would likely result in billions of taxpayer dollars being wasted reopening government and paying government employees for doing nothing while on furlough. It is time to turn the page, and I look forward to standing with President Trump in 2025 to ensure we can hit the ground running to achieve real, fiscally conservative policy wins on behalf of the American people.”
