Smith County Road and Bridge Department Opens New Facilities to Public
KLTV By Lauren Tear January 31, 2025 The Smith County Road and Bridge Department moved into new facilities off of Loop 323 in Tyler in May 2024, and on Friday, they opened their doors to the public. The department’s old facilities had been in use since 1948, and previous Smith County judge, now congressman, Nathaniel Moran recognized the need and started the project in 2018. “I love it. It’s an exciting day – seven or eight years in the making,” said Moran. The new facilities are complete and will accommodate the county’s needs for years to come, doubling both administrative and mechanic shop space for the department. The property consists of two main buildings and a fueling center. “We need to be able to invest in our infrastructure here in Smith County for economic growth reasons, for safety reasons, so many reasons. People deserve good roads to drive on, and, frankly, we need good facilities to work out of, so that we can work efficiently and effectively for the value of tax payers,” Moran said.
