The app “ServeSmart” was created by Nirav Neupane, a 9th grade student in the Texarkana Texas Independent School District.
“It is basically a volunteering app to help get good ideas for volunteering and find local opportunities near you,” said Neupane.
U.S. Congressman Nathaniel Moran honored the 15-year-old as the first recipient of the Congressional App Challenge in the First District of Texas. The Challenge is intended to highlight the value STEM and to encourage students to engage in these fields.
“We want to make sure it inspires every one of these kids in Texarkana and across the First District of Texas to engage whatever their call is, to be innovative and creative and follow that call,” said Moran.
