East Texas Congressman backs Johnson for Speaker amid GOP divisions
Moran said he's looking forward to Johnson's leadership in the 119th Congress under the Trump administration CBS19 By Jude Ratcliff, Brennon Gurley Republican Mike Johnson narrowly clinched a bid for reelection Friday and will serve another term as House Speaker, despite opposition from several GOP holdouts. One of those voting in favor of Johnson is US Rep. Nathaniel Moran, who represents most of East Texas in US Congress. He said he's looking forward to Johnson's leadership in the 119th Congress under the Trump administration. "I'm very excited about Mike Johnson being the Speaker of the House again for the 119th Congress," Moran said. "Speaker Johnson is an honest, trustworthy, hard working man. He's a man of conscience, a real conservative leader. He's going to do a great job for us on the 119th Congress and do a fabulous job of bringing us together as a party to support the agenda that President Trump wants to get done." Moran cited key conservative policies as top priorities in the 119th Congress, including border security and reducing national debt. He said a united congress will allow House leaders to pass bills that previously failed under the Biden administration. "[President Trump] is going to get support from the house to re-up things like H.R.2, the toughest border security bill that Congress has ever passed, the one that we passed last session but died in the Senate," Moran said. "It's going to get through. We're going to get good, long term statutory changes for our border security. Number two behind that is debt and spending. We've got to deal with that. It's right in our faces. We have the Trump tax cuts from 2017 that are expiring, that we need to extend, and we need to reevaluate." Read the full story from CBS19 here. |
