Now in its 9th year, the Texas Veterans Military show took place on Saturday.

Starting at 8 a.m. in Tyler, hundreds gathered to prepare for a parade that would travel to Bullard. Biker groups, local law enforcement and veterans from the area all joined in.

Congressman Nathanial Moran made an appearance, giving a gift to all the Medal of Honor recipients.

“This is my way of giving you something to at least honor you for being here at this parade this morning. It’s made of marble from the U.S. Capitol, crushed up and pressed together and then painted so it looks like the actual statue of freedom on top of the U.S. Capitol,” said Moran, while speaking with the Medal of Honor recipients before the parade began.

Helicopters, motorcycles and military vehicles all drove roughly 12 miles to the location in Bullard where the veterans were introduced and honored in front of those who attended.

“Dads, uncles, great uncles -- they all went to war. I’m the only one that never went to war. This is my way of paying them back. Every vet should be honored, not just Medal of Honor. I’m just blessed to know a lot of Medal of Honor vets. Every vet should be honored for what they did,” said Mike Balfay, the event organizer.

Veterans from as far back as WWII were in attendance and honored. Despite being some of the oldest living war heros, being a part of the celebration with Medal of Honor recipients was a great honor to them as well.

“I can’t believe I have been associating with outstanding career military leaders for the last two days. These men have been awarded the highest medal Uncle Sam offers,” said Thomas Garner, a WWII veteran.
