WHITEHOUSE, Texas — U.S. Rep. Nathaniel Moran, who has advocated for improving rural weather radar gaps, is applauding the addition of a Climavision radar in Whitehouse. 

This week, Climavision, a private Doppler radar company, installed a gap-filling radar in Whitehouse. The radar data will be shared with partners who pay for access, including the National Weather Service, emergency managers and state agencies.

Moran previously authored bills seeking to evaluate the current state of rural weather radar systems, identify gaps in coverage and recommend actions to make early detection of severe weather better.

In a statement, Moran commended Mayor James Wansley and the city of Whitehouse for the addition of the Climavision radar.

"Every community needs a fighting chance when Mother Nature unleashes her fury—and that means fair warning before severe weather hits," Moran said in his statement. "Kudos to the leadership of Mayor James Wansley and congratulations to the City of Whitehouse for the new weather radar system that went up this week that will benefit all of East Texas. It's important that we continue to close these radar gaps throughout our region."
