WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Nathaniel Moran (TX-01) released the following statement today after H.J.Res.45 passed the House of Representatives with a 218-203 vote:

“When I began my academic journey nearly thirty years ago, I made the decision to take out student loans in order to pursue my academic endeavors. In making this decision, I understood the responsibilities associated with that decision were mine – and mine alone.

“The student loan forgiveness program proposed by the Biden Administration is an unconstitutional action on the part of the Executive Branch that tramples the Constitutional Authority of the Legislative Branch under Article I of the U.S. Constitution. Additionally, the Biden loan forgiveness plan is rooted in Marxist and socialist economic principles that fly in the face of our free market foundations where individual liberty runs hand-in-hand with individual responsibility. I wholly reject the idea that all taxpayers should bear the repayment of loans benefitting individuals who willingly and voluntarily took them on.

“Thank you to Congressman Good of Virginia for introducing this measure and bringing Congress together to nullify this unconstitutional student loan forgiveness program.”

Congressman Moran spoke on the Floor of the House of Representatives in support of the legislation, his full remarks are available by clicking HERE.
