Congressman Moran named to House Ethics Committee, says he'll work to 'restore trust'

The U.S. representative serving upper East Texas has been appointed to the House Ethics Committee.

U.S. Rep. Nathaniel Moran, a Republican from Tyler, announced Thursday that House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-Louisiana, appointed him to the committee. Moran, who serves the First Congressional District of Texas, is one of five Republicans on the bipartisan, 10-member committee.

“I am honored to be among five House Republicans selected to serve on the bipartisan House Ethics Committee,” Moran said in a news release. “The responsibility of serving on this Committee is one I do not take lightly. As members of the people’s House, we should seek to uphold the highest ethical standards. I look forward to working diligently with my colleagues to do just that and to help restore trust through accountability in the legislative body that is the House of Representatives.”

The committee investigates and adjudicates alleged violations of House rules by members, officers and employees. It also reviews financial disclosure statements filed by members, candidates and staff.

“It is my honor to appoint Congressman Nathaniel Moran to the House Ethics Committee,” Johnson said in a news release. “His impeccable character, commitment to upholding the highest standards of Congress, and his unwavering dedication to public service make him perfectly suited for this role. I have full confidence that he will serve with integrity as we work to improve the American people’s trust in Congress.”

The district includes Gregg, Smith, Rusk, Harrison, Marion and Upshur counties. Moran is a former Smith County judge.
