House Passes Legislation to Protect Israel, U.S. Allies from Illegitimate International Lawfare

Illegitimate Court Counteraction Act Would Impose Sanctions on ICC Officials Who Go After U.S. Citizens or Allies

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Nathaniel Moran (R-TX-01) voted today for Congressman Chip Roy’s (R-TX-21) International Court Counteraction Act, legislation to impose sanctions on International Criminal Court (ICC) officials who investigate or prosecute the United States and its allies, including Israel. This legislation passed the House on Thursday with a vote of 243 to 140. The legislation previously passed the House in the 118th Congress, but the Democrat-led Senate did not bring it up for a vote.

“Following recent attempts by the International Criminal Court to interfere with the sovereignty of Israel and the United States, House Republicans are taking decisive measures to ensure we are not subjected to politically motivated attacks,” said Congressman Moran. “The ICC poses a significant threat through its unwarranted actions against sovereign nations, undermining their absolute right to defend and protect themselves. The International Court Counteraction Act safeguards both our nation and our greatest ally in the Middle East—Israel—from unjust international jurisdiction and overreach.”

The Illegitimate Court Counteraction Act would sanction any individual working to investigate, arrest, detain, or prosecute American citizens or an official from an allied U.S. country, including Israel. The legislation would cover officials from NATO and major non-NATO countries, including Israel, Japan, and Taiwan. As part of the sanctions imposed by the bill, ICC officials and their immediate family members would be denied visas to enter the U.S. ICC officials already in the country would have their existing visas revoked and face deportation.
