RELEASE: Congressman Nathaniel Moran Statement on Rules Package

Congressman Nathaniel Moran released the following statement in regard to the rules package that is anticipated to be proposed by the Republican Conference once a Speaker is elected:

“Freedom is the right to question and change the established way of doing things. It is the continuous revolution of the marketplace. It is the understanding that allows us to recognize shortcoming and seek solution.” These wise words spoken by President Ronald Reagan rang true in 1988 and continue to ring true today. I applaud all members of the Republican Conference for working tirelessly to prepare a rules package that, among other things, will end proxy voting, requires at least 72 hours notice before voting on a bill, limits the broad definition of germaneness, and reinstates the traditional rules for a Motion to vacate so that leadership remains accountable.

“This rules package reforms the Democrat’s top-down power structure, ends their proxy voting scheme, and ensures conservative values come first. These new rules will help balance our budget to gain back control of our economy and stop reckless spending. Under the new Republican majority, American values will be accurately represented by our government, and I look forward to using these tools to advocate for East Texas throughout the 118th Congress.”
