Congressman Moran Votes to Reverse Harmful Biden-era Energy Regulations

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Nathaniel Moran (R-TX-01) voted to pass Congressman August Pfluger’s (R-TX-11) H.J. Res. 35, which overturns a Biden-era regulation—commonly known as the Natural Gas Tax—that restricted domestic energy production and drove up energy costs for American families.

“This vote sends a clear message to the American people that House Republicans are committed to solving the real issues families faced under the Biden Administration,” said Congressman Moran. “This resolution rolls back harmful regulations imposed in November 2024 that placed heavy burdens on energy producers, increased reliance on foreign energy, threatened our energy security, and drove up costs for hardworking Americans. Its passage reaffirms our commitment to delivering reliable, affordable energy for the American people.

Background:
H.J.Res. 35 drives back the Biden Waste Emissions Charge (WEC) rule, which implements the Inflation Reduction Act’s natural gas tax. This rule, finalized in 2024, creates an unworkable regulatory scheme for energy producers and will raise prices for consumers. Specifically, Biden’s WEC rule imposes harsh financial penalties on energy producers and expands the natural gas tax, blatantly violating Congressional intent. This final rule, and the underlying statutory directive, will bring heavy burdens to operators across the energy supply chain.

Congressman Pfluger’s resolution rolls back this harmful Biden rule and prevents expanding dependence on foreign energy sources and jeopardizing energy reliability and affordability.
