Dear East Texas,
Thirty years ago, I waited tables at Mercado’s to pay for college. This week, I got to stand alongside their incredible team and put the apron back on for a lunch rush — all to spotlight No Tax on Tips.
Thanks to the Working Families Tax Cuts, tipped workers can now claim the full $25,000 above-the-line deduction. Grateful to Tiffany for letting me help her wait tables at lunch and for taking the time to talk with me about her work and the benefits she's already seeing.
Over 7.5 million filers have claimed No Tax on Tips, and 90% of filers claiming the No Tax on Tips deduction had income under $100,000. This is real relief for hardworking individuals at Mercado’s and across the country.

Fighting Fraud, Together: FCIC Tour and Roundtable
|
This week, our office hosted a tour and roundtable with financial institutions from across Texas’ First Congressional District alongside the Financial Crimes Intelligence Center (FCIC). The goal: give our district's financial institutions a direct, operational understanding of how the FCIC combats fraud, strengthens intelligence sharing, and supports statewide financial-crime prevention.
By bringing financial-sector stakeholders together in one room, we created a focused forum to discuss emerging threats, compliance challenges, and opportunities for coordinated action. These conversations reinforce economic security across our district, deepen partnerships between federal and private-sector partners, and highlight the FCIC's critical role in protecting consumers and the integrity of our financial system.
I’m grateful to the FCIC, Captain Roberts, Director Colby, and the financial leaders who showed up ready to collaborate. We are making Texas safer, together.

Investing in the Next Generation: Trump Accounts
|
This week we brought together local financial institutions and families to raise awareness about Trump Accounts and discuss why investing in your child's future is so vital. It was a great opportunity for families across the district to learn more about how these accounts can help build a stronger financial foundation for the next generation.
Trump Accounts represent a generational opportunity for American families to give their kids a head start long before they ever enter the workforce. By encouraging families to begin saving and investing on behalf of their children from an early age, these accounts help build a financial foundation that can grow over time—supporting future goals like higher education, a first home, or launching a small business.
This is what pro-family, pro-growth tax policy looks like: giving every child a stake in the American economy from day one. I'm proud to have supported the tax cuts that made it possible, and I'll keep fighting for policies that put working families first.

Real Relief for Our Seniors: No Tax on Social Security
|
We hosted a Social Security event with East Texas seniors to walk through what the Working Families Tax Cuts means for them. It was a chance to sit down face-to-face, answer questions, and hear directly from the people most impacted.
Our seniors built East Texas. They spent decades working the land, running businesses, raising families, and showing up for their neighbors—and they deserve to keep more of what they've earned, not send more of it to Washington. That's why we fought for No Tax on Social Security, delivering real relief for the folks who've spent a lifetime working hard for this district. This is real money in their back pockets every month.

On August 22, 1851, the New York Yacht Club's schooner America won a 53-nautical-mile race around the Isle of Wight, defeating 15 British vessels to claim the Royal Yacht Squadron's "One Hundred Guinea Cup," which was later renamed the America's Cup after the winning boat.
