Dear East Texas,
Rural communities are the backbone of this country—and now, Washington is finally investing in them the way they deserve. With the passage of the Working Families Tax Cuts, House Republicans delivered a commitment to rural health through the Rural Health Transformation Program (RHTP), a $50 billion initiative that represents the largest investment in rural healthcare in over two decades. Texas alone will receive $281 million federal funding for the first year of five to rebuild and strengthen rural healthcare from the ground up—ensuring where you live never determines the quality of care you receive.
This week I sat down with Senator John Cornyn, rural county leaders, and rural health officials from across East Texas to talk about the needs of rural East Texas and what this investment means on the ground. The RHTP gives our rural communities the tools, resources, and foundation needed to invest and expand telehealth services and stabilize rural hospitals that serve as lifelines for entire regions.
No two counties face identical challenges, and the flexibility built into this program allows communities to direct resources where they’re needed most.

This program prescribes real remedies for healthcare. Right here in East Texas, bold strides are already being taken by the establishment of the UT Tyler School of Medicine, and RHTP funding will only accelerate these efforts, whether through modernizing infrastructure or bolstering recruitment and retention. Republicans delivered tangible, practical improvements that lower costs, empower patients, and expand access to care.

East Texas Healthcare in Action
|
ContinueCARE Hospital This week I visited ContinueCARE Hospital of Longview to see firsthand the critical work being done for patients with complex, long-term medical needs. Long Term Acute Care Hospitals like ContinueCARE fill a vital gap in our healthcare system.
The depth of care provided is what sets them apart. Physicians, nurses, therapists, dietitians, social workers, pharmacists, and case managers work together on every aspect of a patient's care — and families are welcomed as partners in that process. This comprehensive and coordinated support makes all the difference in a patient's life. It was an honor to meet the dedicated professionals who show up every day to provide it.
|
Prosthetic-Orthotic Associates I had the privilege of sitting down with Mac McClellan, Founder and President of Prosthetic-Orthotic Associates, to discuss the critical work his practice does for patients across Texas and beyond.
Our conversation shed light on the challenges and opportunities facing this essential field—and what more can be done to support the patients who depend on it. His team's dedication to restoring mobility and independence has transformed the lives of countless individuals who rely on prosthetic and orthotic care.

Building on a Strong Foundation

Georgia-Pacific’s investment in Pineland Lumber has paid off in a big way. New technology and expanded product offerings have positioned the facility as a major competitor in the forest products industry.
This week, I was able to tour the facilities and see firsthand the modern capability. Pineland Lumber is the largest sawmill in the south utilizing advanced technology to produce significant lumber volume. It was great to see the kind of long-term commitment to this community that Georgia-Pacific continues to demonstrate.

America’s Medicine Cabinet Runs Through Beijing
|
These numbers should give every American pause. The U.S. sources 80 to 90 percent of active pharmaceutical ingredients from China. Nearly half of all new drug molecules that entered human trials in the first half of 2025 came from Chinese laboratories. Beijing isn’t stumbling into this position—its engineering it.
China's 14th Five-Year Plan explicitly names biotechnology a national priority, and it has spent years recruiting the capital, talent, and IP needed to dominate the global pharmaceutical pipeline from discovery to distribution. China wants to dominate medicine distribution to the United States.
For generations, American researchers and companies delivered breakthroughs that changed the course of human health. The next generation of lifesaving medicines should be no different. Americans must understand the risk of relying on our adversary for new life-saving drugs. We cannot count on our greatest adversary to act in good faith. The Chinese Communist Party can use supply chains as a weapon. Must ensure they never control this supply chain that is key to the health of our citizens.

This week I released the following statement on Iran:
“The United States of America must always be prepared to use overwhelming military force when necessary to defend our national security interests and protect Americans at home and abroad.
And, a President should have the latitude to make decisions to that end, but only to the extent that those decisions are also consistent with the inherent authority of a Commander-in-Chief under the U. S. Constitution and the provisions of the War Powers Resolution. To date, I have supported the President’s decisions relating to the Iranian conflict because they were consistent with these authorities and the ultimate goal of protecting national security interests.
At the same time, what sets America apart is not only our strength, but how we use it. Our nation has always conducted military operations for just causes and through just and moral means. This must continue in the future; otherwise we forfeit our legitimacy to lead the world.
So, let me be clear: I do not support the destruction of a “whole civilization”. That is not who we are, and it is not consistent with the principles that have long guided America.
I have and will continue to support a strong national defense—one that is focused, disciplined, and firmly rooted in protecting the safety and security of the American people. But, how we protect the lives of the innocent is just as important as how we engage the enemy.
America is great because America is good.”

On April 11, 1970 Apollo 13 launched from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The Saturn V rocket carried astronauts Jim Lovell, Fred Haise, and Jack Swigert. The mission was aborted two days later on April 13, after an oxygen tank in the service module exploded, forcing the crew to use the Lunar Module Aquarius as a "lifeboat" to return safely to Earth on April 17.
