Dear East Texas,
Happy Easter! This Easter, we are reminded of the enduring message of hope, renewal, and grace. For millions of Americans, Easter marks the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ—a powerful symbol of new beginnings.
Wishing you and your family a blessed Resurrection Sunday tomorrow. He is risen indeed!

A New Chapter for East Texas Recreation
|
Last weekend, I had the privilege of attending the ribbon cutting for Sabinetown Recreation Area at Toledo Bend—a proud milestone for our entire region. Seeing this beautiful new facility come to life was a reminder of what our community can accomplish when we invest in our people and our future.
This remarkable project represents far more than a new recreation area. It is a testament to the kind of thoughtful, long-term investment that strengthens communities and creates lasting impact for decades to come. Facilities like Sabinetown open doors for families, local business, and outdoor enthusiasts. When we invest in spaces like this, we invest in the quality of life that makes our region a place people are proud to call home. East Texas is growing, thriving, and open for opportunity. I am grateful to the leadership of the Sabine River Authority for their vision and commitment to making it a reality.

One month ago, the Longview skyline witnessed a dramatic emergency when a hot air balloon became entangled with a communications tower 900 feet in the air. The Longview Fire Department responded immediately, launching a swift and coordinated rescue operation.
Lt. Stephen Winchell and Firefighter Cliff Patrick led the effort, personally reaching the stranded individuals on the tower. They were supported by 12 additional firefighters who scaled the structure to manage ropes and assist with operations, while another 21 crew members provided critical support from the ground. Through their courage and professionalism, both the pilot and passenger were brought to safety.
I am deeply grateful to our heroic firefighters and inspired by the speed and unity with which our community came together in a moment of crisis. It is a true honor to represent a community with such resilience, compassion, and strength.

Investing in East Texas: A Week of Facility Tours
|
We have incredible companies investing right here in East Texas. This week, I was fortunate to tour a few of the facilities and talk with their teams to understand the innovation taking place.
Tyson Foods My first stop was Tyson's facility in Center, where I saw firsthand the efficiency and scale of just one of their facilities in East Texas. I am proud to support the entirety of the poultry industry in East Texas with business-friendly tax, trade, workforce, and agriculture policies that help businesses grow so that families can thrive. Tyson's presence here continues to strengthen our local workforce and showcases the kind of infrastructure that keeps our region competitive on a national stage.

HOLT CAT Few companies have served Texas longer or more faithfully than HOLT CAT. As the authorized Caterpillar dealer for 118 counties across Texas, the company has been a cornerstone of our region’s economy since 1933. From construction and agriculture to mining and petroleum, their equipment, engines, and services power the industries that power East Texas. Touring their operation gave me a deeper appreciation for the depth and reach of what they do every single day.
|
Flowers Baking Co. Since the Flowers family opened their first bakery in 1919, this company has grown into one of the largest producers of packaged bakery foods in the United States. What stood out to me wasn't just the scale of their production, but their genuine commitment to their people. Flowers Foods invests heavily in career development across production, management, sales, and beyond, and it shows in the pride their workforce brings to the job every day.

Oceans Behavioral Hospital Perhaps the most meaningful stop of the week was Oceans Behavioral Hospital in Longview. Oceans is doing the hard, necessary work—delivering comprehensive care that meets patients where they are, from crisis stabilization to structured recovery programs. Their experienced care teams lead with dignity and compassion, and we are fortunate for their commitment to our community.

Many of us interact with the restaurant industry every week—but its impact on our local economy is often overlooked. In East Texas, nearly 30,000 people work in restaurants, supporting their families and helping drive growth across our region.
|
These small businesses are more than places to dine—they are job creators, first employers, and pillars of our communities. Yet, restaurant owners continue to face rising costs, regulatory burdens, and workforce shortages that require thoughtful, pro-growth solutions.
House Republicans advanced policies to support both workers and small businesses across the restaurant industry, including the Working Families Tax Cuts, which deliver “No Tax on Tips” and targeted tax relief to help families keep more of what they earn.
