Dear East Texas,
House Republicans are continuing to push full steam ahead to deliver on President Trump’s FULL agenda as we continue to work through budget reconciliation to deliver on the ‘One Big Beautiful’ bill for President Trump and the American people. Last week, seven House committees advanced their pieces of the reconciliation bill that meet deficit-reducing or revenue-related goals. The goal remains the same: deliver a reconciliation package that will bring certainty to our businesses, incentivize innovation, restore domestic manufacturing, and deliver on the promises of President Trump to uplift our working families, small businesses, and the American people.
This week, House Republicans on the Natural Resources Committee set a great example by taking bold action to put the American people back in the driver’s seat. During their committee markup, they advanced a bill that saves taxpayers $15 billion, restores American energy dominance, and ends our dependence on the Chinese Communist Party for critical minerals. This conservative blueprint cuts red tape, slashes wasteful spending, and reins in Biden-era policies that locked up our resources and handed power to unelected bureaucrats. It unleashes job growth, fuels domestic mining, and ensures affordable, reliable energy for American families—all while protecting taxpayers from costly, bloated federal programs. On Tuesday, the House Committee on Ways and Means will hold our own markup as we work to meet our revenue-related goal by extending the Trump Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 (TCJA). I look forward to providing an update on our budget reconciliation efforts and our work to deliver tax relief for the American people.

I’m pleased to share an important update on my legislation—the No Dollars to Uyghur Forced Labor Act unanimously passed the House of Representatives this week. This bill ensures that U.S. taxpayer dollars are not used to finance contracts with companies linked to forced labor in China’s Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region.
The Chinese Communist Party’s use of forced labor, particularly in Xinjiang, is a direct affront to human dignity and freedom. My bill prohibits the U.S. Department of State from entering into contracts with entities connected to these abuses, reinforcing our commitment to human rights and ethical governance.
|
As I stated during debate on the House floor: “Slavery in any form is morally repugnant, and America—known on the international stage as a beacon of freedom and liberty—must not be complicit in the Chinese Communist Party’s genocide and oppression of the Uyghur people. The United States must push back on China, not only in our words, but through our actions.” You can watch my full remarks HERE.

So what’s next? Now that my bill has passed the House, it heads to the U.S. Senate for consideration. I urge the Senate to act swiftly to advance this critical legislation and send it to President Trump’s desk for his signature. The United States must lead by example—standing against tyranny, defending human rights, and holding the Chinese Communist Party accountable. This legislation is a critical first step to do just that.

This week, I proudly voted for Congressman August Pfluger’s bill—the DHS Restrictions on Confucius Institutes and Chinese Entities of Concern Act—to stop the Chinese Communist Party from infiltrating American college campuses. As a member of the House Select Committee on the CCP, I know how these Confucius Institutes, funded by the CCP, are used to spread propaganda, suppress free speech, and undermine our national security. This legislation cuts off taxpayer funding to any university that partners with CCP-aligned institutions, taking important action to defend our students, protect academic freedom, and uphold American values. I’ll keep working with House Republicans to protect the next generation from foreign authoritarian influence on our college campuses and beyond. This week, the House passed H.R. 276, legislation introduced by my colleague, Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA-14), that codifies into law President Trump’s action that designates the “Gulf of Mexico” as the “Gulf of America.” It’s a move that reflects the realities of the Gulf region: we defend it, we secure it, and we keep it open for global commerce. On Day One, President Trump signed Executive Order 14172, directing federal agencies to begin using the name “Gulf of America” in official documents and maps. Now, the House has followed President Trump’s lead, passing legislation to codify this distinction. And, in stark contrast to the Left’s practices of renaming everything without a vote, we took this legislation to the full House floor, standing up for pride, sovereignty, and American leadership.
|
This is about more than a name. It’s about reclaiming our identity and recognizing America’s vital role in this strategic region. The American people agree with President Trump and House Republicans – this move just makes sense. To read more about Congresswoman Greene’s legislation, click here.

I recently joined Tony Perkins, President of the Family Research Council, to discuss the battles we’re fighting in Congress: restoring fiscal sanity through budget reconciliation and rooting out the dangerous influence of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in America’s research institutions.

As a former small-business owner, I know firsthand the grit it takes to grow a business, hire workers, and power a local economy. One of those efforts is my bill—the No Tax on Overtime Act—a key pillar of President Trump’s America First tax agenda and one of his top priorities for Congress’s reconciliation package. This legislation creates a tax deduction for overtime pay for working-class Americans. It eliminates 100% of income taxes on the 50% premium earned through working overtime—directly benefiting the more than 90 million hourly workers across the country. It’s tailored to help police officers, nurses, factory workers, truck drivers, and construction crews who keep this country running. After four years of rising inflation and failed economic policies under the Biden Administration, it’s time to put working Americans first again—and that’s exactly what we’re doing.
