Dear Friends,

As we welcome 2025, I want to thank you for the trust you’ve placed in me to represent the First District of Texas. This past year has been filled with meaningful progress, and I’m excited about the opportunities ahead to serve you and our community.

It’s an honor to represent East Texas. Happy New Year, and may God bless you and our great nation!

My Full Message:

Happy New Year, East Texas!

I’m Congressman Nathaniel Moran, and I want to tell you how proud I am to represent every one of you in Washington, D.C. As we reflect on the past year, I’d like to share some accomplishments and milestones for the First District of Texas.

Over the past two years during the 118th Congress, my team and I have dedicated our time and resources to serving you in every way possible.

During this time, we’ve reached out to more than 600,000 East Texans directly through telephone town halls—keeping you informed about what’s happening in D.C. and answering your questions, even while working from the nation’s capital.

My office has also engaged with more than 51,000 of you through emails, letters, and phone calls. I’m proud to say we’ve helped over 1,300 East Texans with casework issues. That’s a big part of what we do, so don’t hesitate to reach out if you need assistance.

Additionally, we returned $6.2 million from federal agencies back to East Texans—where it rightfully belongs. It’s your money, and we’re committed to ensuring it’s used for your benefit.

Over the 118th Congress, we introduced 20 bills focused on securing our border, cutting unnecessary federal spending, protecting election integrity, and supporting a strong workforce. We also co-sponsored more than 220 bills, working with my colleagues to advance legislation that benefits East Texans and upholds the values we hold dear.

During my first term, I was honored to serve on the House Committees on Judiciary, Foreign Affairs, and Education and Workforce. Looking ahead to the 119th Congress, I’m proud to announce that I’ve been selected to serve on the Ways and Means Committee.

This committee addresses critical policy issues affecting everyday Americans, including taxes, health care, trade, and mandatory spending programs. Ways and Means is where the action will be in the 119th Congress, and I’m proud to be there to ensure your voice and your vote have greater influence in Washington.

In this role, I look forward to working with my fellow committee members to extend the Trump tax cuts of 2017 and collaborate with President Trump and his administration to promote policies that support Texas taxpayers and small business owners.

From my time as Smith County Judge to my role as your congressman, I’ve always been grateful for the trust you’ve placed in me. As 2025 begins, I look forward to continuing to represent and serve the people of the First District.

If you need anything, my door is always open.

Happy New Year, First District of Texas. I’m here to help.

Our mission is clear: to represent the First District of Texas with steadfast principles, effective statesmanship, humble service, and bold action. That’s what we’ve been doing, and that’s what we’ll continue to do.

May God bless each one of you, may God bless America, and Happy New Year!

This Week in American History

Texas Annexation

On December 29th, 1845, Texas was admitted into the United States as the 28th state. In March 1836, Texas declared its independence from Mexico. The citizens of the independent Republic of Texas elected Sam Houston president but also endorsed the entrance of Texas into the Union. In 1844, Congress finally agreed to annex Texas. Texas entered the United States as a slave state, broadening the irrepressible differences in the United States over the issue of slavery and setting off the Mexican-American War.
