Dear East Texas,
This tax season looks different—and for millions of American families, it looks a lot better.
Thanks to the Working Families Tax Cuts Act, signed into law by President Trump on July 4, 2025, Republicans are delivering permanent tax relief designed to put more money back into the pockets of workers, families, and small business owners. But the relief doesn't stop at your tax return.

The law also introduces landmark programs that could reshape how your family saves and learns: - Making Adoption Affordable: For the first time, we have made up to $5,000 of the Adoption Tax Credit refundable. Previously, families couldn't get back more than they owed in taxes; now, we are providing a direct injection of support to help families welcome a child home.
- Modernizing Paid Leave: The OBBB made the Paid Family and Medical Leave Tax Credit permanent and expanded it to all 50 states. By lowering the minimum time an employee must have worked for the business from one year to just six months, we are ensuring more workers are covered when life’s most important moments happen.
- Cutting Care Costs: The OBBB increased the maximum Child and Dependent Care Credit rate from 35% to 50%. By raising the income threshold for the full credit, we are delivering targeted relief to the heart of the American middle class and helping millions of families offset the cost of care by an average of almost $1,000.
- Empowering Small Business Childcare: The OBBB increased the maximum credit for employers to $500,000 (and $600,000 for small businesses) for providing childcare for their employees. By allowing small businesses to pool resources for childcare and use third-party intermediaries, we are breaking down barriers and creating more local options for working parents.
Whether you're filing your taxes, planning for your child's education, or thinking about long-term financial security, the Working Families Tax Cuts were designed with your household in mind.

House Republicans Are Delivering Results
|
Just over a year ago, American families were struggling under the weight of Democratic mismanagement. Inflation was crushing household budgets and small businesses, while skyrocketing gas prices drained wallets at the pump. Since President Trump took office, headline inflation has been running at 2.4% (much lower than the 3% annual rate inherited from Biden) and core inflation has been running at 2.4% (much lower than the 3.3% annual rate inherited from Biden) (Source: The White House). On top of that, our southern border was in a state of complete crisis, with millions of illegal crossings going unchecked and dangerous criminals entering our communities. Violent crime was rampant across the country, and hardworking taxpayers were being forced to foot the bill for radical policies they never asked for. Simply put, Democrat policies left our country a complete disaster.
|
This week, I joined my House Republican colleagues to discuss the incredible work accomplished in the last 14 months. The Working Families Tax Cut delivered the largest tax cut in American history, boosting annual take-home pay for working families by over $10,000 in many cases, and providing an average 15% tax cut for Americans earning between $15,000 and $80,000. And, hard working families are now seeing this historic legislation directly impact their wallets during the 2026 tax season.
Since President Trump took office, House Republicans have worked to restore our country. Illegal border crossings fell 87% from the Biden four-year average, reaching their lowest level in 55 years. The 119th Congress has passed over 500 bills and resolutions, codified more than 100 Trump executive orders, and rescinded $9 billion in wasteful spending—all while restoring American strength and leadership on the world stage. Promises made, promises kept.

Helping Small Businesses Support Working Families
|
Raising a family while maintaining a career is no easy task, especially when childcare costs continue to rise. Small businesses across East Texas want to support their employees, but many simply do not have the resources to offer benefits that larger corporations can provide. This week, I was proud to co-lead the Small Business Dependent Care FSA Opportunity Act, legislation that helps small employers offer childcare benefits to their workers.
This bill provides a tax credit to help small businesses cover the startup costs of establishing Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs)—a benefit that allows employees to set aside pre-tax income to pay for childcare, daycare, and other dependent care expenses. For many small employers, the administrative costs of launching these programs can be a barrier. Our legislation removes that hurdle by helping businesses offset those costs during the first few years of implementation.
As a father of four and a former small business owner, I understand how important it is for employers to remain competitive when hiring while also supporting the needs of working families. By making it easier for small businesses to offer child-care benefits, this legislation helps families keep more of what they earn while helping local employers attract and retain talented workers.
Supporting working families and empowering small businesses remain top priorities as we work to strengthen communities across East Texas.

Building Stronger Communities Together
|
Strong communities are built through strong partnerships—and that’s exactly what I discussed with Texarkana’s Chamber of Commerce during their visit to Washington. It was great connecting with the dedicated businesses leaders and community champions who make the Texarkana region thrive.
When we support local businesses, create opportunity, and give East Texans a voice, the opportunities are endless. The Texarkana community continues to exceed because of the unwavering commitment to excellence every day. Proud to support this strong community and the people who make lasting changes.

Since 1955, the Hiway 80 Rescue Mission has been a beacon of hope across East Texas—and after sitting down with Executive Director Brian Livingston, it’s clear the legacy is stronger than ever. Hearing firsthand the incredible progress this ministry is making was truly inspiring.
From restoring dignity to providing a path forward, Hiway 80 is changing lives every day in East Texas and beyond. It was a privilege to hear their story. I am grateful for the vital role they play in our community.

On March 12, 1894, Coca-Cola was sold in glass bottles for the first time by Joseph A. Biedenharn in Vicksburg, Mississippi. Previously only sold at soda fountains, Biedenharn bottled the drink in Hutchinson bottles to increase accessibility, a move that launched the widespread bottling of the brand.
