Happy New Year, East Texas. This is Congressman Nathaniel Moran.

This is a season for reflection and new beginnings. It has been an honor to represent the First District of Texas since 2023, and this last year, 2025, has been a great one.

This past year, I have continued to fight for greater liberty for each East Texan.

In January, I was sworn in for my second term in Congress, and our team immediately hit the ground running, putting America first.

Within hours of President Trump taking office, he signed over 200 executive orders and secured the Southern border, invested in America's energy independence, not just independence but dominance, ended harmful DEI policies, and mandated a return to in-person work for all federal agencies.

All these policies have helped our country roar back to life and deliver real results for the American people.

And as a member of Congress, we stood next to President Trump in making sure that all of this happened.

In the past year, Congress has worked to codify President Trump's orders to ensure that these policies stay intact, no matter who is president. Parts of more than 50 executive orders have been codified just this last year.

During the 119th Congress, I joined the Ways and Means Committee, which is the chief tax-writing body for the House of Representatives, and the committee that oversees important issues like trade, Social Security, work and welfare programs, and Medicare, not to mention tax.

During this past year, the committee worked hard to put together the Working Families Tax Cut. Many of you know it as the One Big Beautiful Bill. And in July, the Working Families Tax Cuts was signed into law, providing historic tax relief for all Americans and making sure that the largest tax increase that was to come for all Americans did not actually happen.

This legislation provides greater liberty and prosperity for small businesses, families, farmers, and rural America, real people like us in East Texas.

Here are a few provisions I wanna highlight.

That One Big Beautiful Bill supported over 30 million small businesses that are pass-through entities like LLCs and S Corporations by making Section 199A permanent and generating 284 billion in additional manufacturing-based economic growth.

That Section 199A permanency impacts and benefits more than 93% of all the businesses in East Texas. It also boosted American manufacturing by allowing 100% immediate expensing for new factories, for equipment, and for facility improvements.

It doubled the small business expensing threshold to 2.5 million, allowing greater breathing room for small businesses so they can invest more in their employees.

It expanded tax relief for families and seniors, including no tax on tips, no tax on car loan interest, tax relief for those working overtime, and additional tax relief for seniors.

It increased the child tax credit enhanced standard deduction to $2,500 for over 40 million families.

It empowered working families through permanent paid tax, leave tax credits, expanded childcare access, and included these new savings accounts for every child at birth.

Protected family farms and rural small businesses by making the death tax exemption permanent and doubling that amount.

It unleashed rural growth by expanding Rural Opportunity Zones and 100% expensing for new factories, agriculture improvements, and equipment. That's empowering producers to expand and invest all across East Texas and America.

These are wins for hardworking Americans, not just in East Texas, but all over the nation. And as you will see the effects of the massive legislation when you file your 2025 tax returns this April.

Besides avoiding that largest tax increase in American history, which was on its way if we didn't pass the Working Families Tax Cut, you will see reduced taxes and strong growth in the economy widespread.

Stay tuned for more updates about this year's tax season and see how this historic relief will impact you.

House Republicans continue to peel back regulations from the Biden administration with the goal of making America more affordable.

And real healthcare reform is on its way to undo the 96% increase in premiums that have occurred since Obamacare took effect and absolutely wrecked the health insurance marketplace.

The only ones benefiting from that are the health insurance companies, and Congress is coming after them.

We have made major strides, but we'll never stop working towards a more affordable America for all Americans.

From securing our borders to protecting taxpayers and strengthening our communities, 2025 has been a strong chapter for American history.

But the best is yet to come. I look forward to the fight for liberty, for common sense, and for you in 2026.

May God bless each of you and your families. God bless East Texas. Happy New Year.

Have a great year in 2026. We will pray Godspeed in everything that you do, God's prosperity and security on each one of you, your families, and your businesses. Take care.

On January 1, 1835, the U.S. national debt reaches $0. President Andrew Jackson achieved the goal of entirely paying off the United States' national debt. This is the only time in U.S. history that the national debt stood at zero.
