Dear East Texas,

This Memorial Day, we pause to honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in defense of our nation and the freedoms we hold dear. Their sacrifice is a solemn reminder that liberty is never free—it is earned through courage, duty, and devotion.

They followed a higher calling—one rooted in service, sacrifice, and the belief that freedom is worth fighting for. Because of them, we live in a nation where liberty endures, and the promise of an abundant life remains within reach for all.

The One, Big, Beautiful Bill Fuels America’s
Economic Growth

Last week, I highlighted key provisions in the One, Big, Beautiful Bill (OBBB) that champion life and put American families first—lowering the cost of childcare, expanding tax relief for parents, and reversing the damage caused by Biden-era inflation.

This week, I’m proud to report that the House has officially passed the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, advancing it out of the Budget Committee, through the Rules Committee, and passing it in the full House with a vote of 215-214, 1. This marks a major milestone in the reconciliation process and brings us one step closer to delivering on President Trump’s America First vision. Now, the ball is in the Senate’s court. The American people are ready for relief. It’s time to send this transformational package to President Trump’s desk and take bold action to make America safe, strong, and prosperous again.

As we continue to unpack what’s in the bill, this week I’m turning to how the One, Big, Beautiful Bill fuels economic growth—putting more money back in your pocket and jumpstarting job creation for small businesses and American manufacturer

Congressman Nathaniel Moran (R-TX) Delivers Remarks on the "One Big Beautiful Bill"

With inflation straining working families and small businesses, the One, Big, Beautiful Bill delivers pro-growth, pro-business, and pro-worker reforms that will rebuild our economy from the bottom up. This package brings back the proven, Trump-era economic tools that built the strongest economy in modern history—rewarding hard work, restoring global competitiveness, and unlocking opportunity for small businesses and manufacturers across America.

Here’s how the OBBB does it:

  • Restores 100% immediate expensing so businesses can invest in equipment and employees today—not five years from now.

  • Renews incentives for R&D (Research and Development) by allowing immediate expensing. This will fuel American innovation and prevent jobs and capital from moving overseas.

  • Makes the Small Business Deduction permanent, by increasing and making permanent the small business deduction to 23% for 30 million small businesses.

  • Incentivizes Made-in-America manufacturing, helping create nearly 300,000 jobs and boost wages by a full percentage point by incentivizing new manufacturing and production structures in America.

  • Revives and expands Opportunity Zones, targeting distressed rural communities with over $100 billion in projected investment.
  • Rolls back burdensome reporting rules, including repealing the Democrats’ attack on gig workers and raising the 1099-K threshold to cut red tape.

These policies are projected to create over 1 million new small business jobs annually, raise wages by up to $3,300 per worker, and add $850 billion in GDP per year over the next decade.

Supporting Local Industry at J&S Sand and Gravel

I had the privilege of visiting J&S Sand and Gravel, a family-owned business in Tyler that’s been serving East Texas with integrity and grit for nearly four decades.

Founded in 1986 by Johnny and Pat Speake, J&S is the kind of business that reminds us of what makes our region special. Even after the passing of Johnny Sr. in 2020, the company continues to operate just as he built it: honest, dependable, and deeply rooted in community values.

I met with Johnny Jr., Kris, PJ, and several longtime employees—some of whom have been with the company for more than 20 years. We walked the yard, stepped into the maintenance shop for a safety briefing ahead of a Department of Transportation inspection blitz, and even climbed into the cab of an 18-wheeler for a hands-on look at the equipment that keeps this operation rolling. We also had important conversations about the challenges facing small trucking companies—rising insurance costs, outdated reporting requirements, and the increasing burden of federal compliance that often overlooks the realities of businesses like theirs.

That’s why passing the One, Big, Beautiful Bill is so important. It includes common-sense reforms that would directly benefit operations like J&S—restoring full expensing so they can invest in equipment immediately, locking in tax relief that helps family-run companies keep more of what they earn, and reversing policies that penalize independent contractors and working-class entrepreneurs.

Businesses like J&S Sand and Gravel are the heart of East Texas. They work hard, employ local folks, and do things the right way. It’s my job in Congress to make sure Washington works for them—not against them—and the One, Big, Beautiful Bill is a step in the right direction.

Celebrating the Class of 2025 at Texas A&M–Texarkana and Longview Christian Academy

This month, I had the honor of joining graduates at Texas A&M–Texarkana and Longview Christian Academy to celebrate their achievements and offer a word of encouragement as they step into the future.

TAMU T Grad

In both ceremonies, I spoke about the powerful relationship between liberty and responsibility—reminding students that the freedom they’ve earned through education must be paired with a life of purpose and service. I urged them to lead with humility, nobility, and integrity—the pillars of a meaningful life and the foundation of a lasting legacy.

Morse Code

On May 24, 1844, Samuel Morse sent the first official telegraph message from Washington, D.C., to Baltimore—ushering in a new era of communication in America. The message, “What hath God wrought,” a biblical quotation, was chosen to reflect the awe and moral significance of this groundbreaking innovation.
