Dear East Texas, You’re invited! I’m excited to share that in just a few weeks, I’ll be hosting several in-person budget workshops to discuss ways to return our country to fiscal stability. These special events will be hosted in partnership with the Concord Coalition—a nonpartisan organization dedicated to educating Americans about the growing risks of our national debt and the importance of responsible fiscal policy. At the center of the event is Principles & Priorities, an interactive workshop where you’ll work through the challenge of balancing the federal budget. Together, we’ll review real tax and spending policies, weigh future priorities, and get a firsthand look at the tough decisions lawmakers face every day. I’ll be there to visit with you, listen to your ideas, and answer questions. These types of conversations are some of the most meaningful I get to have as your representative. This is a great opportunity to better understand how the federal budget process works and to engage in a thoughtful, constructive dialogue about the future of our country’s fiscal health. Many folks leave these workshops with a deeper appreciation for both the challenges and the opportunities ahead.

We’ll be sending out full event details soon. I hope you’ll mark your calendar and make plans to join us—I’d love to see you there. We only have a limited number of seats. So, be sure to RSVP soon! [To RSVP, click here]

Last week, the House took an important step to protect the integrity of our federal elections by passing H.R. 22, the SAVE Act, legislation introduced by my friend and colleague, Congressman Chip Roy (R-TX-21). I was proud to be an original cosponsor and support this bill on the House floor. The SAVE Act was designed to make common sense reforms that ensure only eligible American citizens are registered to vote in federal elections. Under the SAVE Act, documentary proof of U.S. citizenship would be required upon registration, and existing voter rolls would be cleaned to remove non-citizens. A private right of action would also be granted to citizens, empowering individuals to hold election officials accountable if those proof-of-citizenship requirements are ignored.

As I’ve said many times before—including during my time as a County Judge in Texas—what we need are “SALTY” elections: Secure, Accurate, Legal, Transparent elections, with YOU, the American citizen, involved in every step of the process. Unfortunately, growing abuses and documented instances of election fraud have led to widespread distrust in our electoral system. Even worse, efforts continue across the country to allow non-citizens, including illegal immigrants, to participate in our elections—despite it already being against the law. That is simply incomprehensible to me – and I know East Texans agree. Opponents of the SAVE Act have falsely claimed that this legislation would prevent individuals who have changed their names—such through marriage—from voting. That is not true. In fact, the SAVE Act mandates that processes be in place to accommodate name changes when proving citizenship, ensuring that eligible voters are not disenfranchised.
With more than 10 million illegal immigrants having entered the country since the start of 2021, election integrity cannot be taken for granted. The SAVE Act was passed to help close loopholes and restore trust in our democratic process. By passing this bill, the House has reaffirmed a basic principle: every single American vote should count—with full measure and without dilution. I was proud to support this legislation and grateful to Congressman Roy for his leadership on this critical issue.

I was humbled to be invited by East Texas native Heather Stoner to speak with a group of 15 Intercessors for America (IFA) guests who were in Washington, D.C., visiting from 11 different states as part of their monthly on-site prayer experience in our nation’s capital.
|
During our time together, I had the opportunity to share how I stay grounded in my faith while serving in Congress, and how I have seen the power of prayer firsthand as God moves in our nation’s capital. We closed with a moving moment of prayer. These small groups pray throughout the Capitol and meet with elected officials whom God has called to serve. Especially during this Easter season, I’m reminded that the same power that raised Christ from the grave is still at work today—even in the halls of Congress. I’m grateful to these believers for their prayers, their presence, and the hope they bring as we seek to serve faithfully in this place.

I had the privilege of meeting with country music legend Randy Travis and Warner Music Group CEO Robert Kyncl to discuss the importance of the NO FAKES Act—a bipartisan effort to protect artists from the unauthorized use of their voices, likenesses, and identities through AI-generated content.
|
We had a meaningful conversation about the growing threat of digital impersonation and the urgent need to preserve the integrity of creative work in the modern era. As artificial intelligence continues to evolve, Congress must ensure that the legacies of American artists—past, present, and future—are respected and protected under the law. I'm proud to stand with industry leaders, creators, and advocates to support this important legislation. To read more about the No FAKES Act, click here.

I had the opportunity to meet with members of the American Academy of Audiology to discuss the Medicare Audiology Access Improvement Act, legislation I am co-leading, to expand access to hearing and balance care for seniors. Far too often, seniors enrolled in traditional Medicare face delays or barriers when trying to access the care they need for hearing loss—something that directly impacts their quality of life, independence, and overall health. Our bill makes meaningful changes by allowing Medicare to cover both diagnostic and treatment services provided by licensed audiologists, removing outdated referral requirements, and ensuring future access to audiology services.
|
Improving Medicare access to audiologic care is about treating our seniors with the dignity they deserve. I remain committed to working toward solutions that help East Texas seniors get the timely, affordable care they need. To read more about the Medicare Audiology Access Improvement Act, click here.

President Abraham Lincoln was shot in the head at Ford’s Theatre in Washington, D.C. The assassin, actor John Wilkes Booth, shouted, “Sic semper tyrannis! (Ever thus to tyrants!) The South is avenged,” as he jumped onto the stage and fled on horseback. Lincoln died the next morning.
