Dear East Texans,
August is here, and that means it’s the beginning of the official district work period. While Congress is out of session, the work doesn’t stop—it just re-locates closer to home. From legislative updates with constituents and community leaders to site visits across the region, I enjoy using this time to check in with folks and share what all we’ve been able to accomplish these last six months, especially with the passage of the One, Big, Beautiful Bill (OBBB).
|
We kicked off the week meeting with local business owners and community leaders at an economic development roundtable in New Boston to talk about the growth and development in East Texas. We paired this time in Bowie County with stops in Atlanta for a lunchtime legislative discussion, and Jefferson for an evening meeting regarding the work that we’ve done in Washington, D.C. these first seven months, and the work yet to come.
|
I also joined the East Texas Kick-Off luncheon and the Tyler Economic Development Council (TEDC) Quarterly Investor Breakfast this week, where the focus of our discussion was on economic growth and small business opportunity—key goals of the OBBB.
In Texarkana, I met with the Texarkana Chamber of Commerce Military & Community Affairs Committee to talk about my steadfast support for Red River Army Depot as we continue our work to secure its future as a National Security Asset. In Kilgore, we connected with Dr. Kays, President of Kilgore College, and other administrators to discuss benefits of the OBBB for local community colleges and those involved in workforce development, as well as continuing challenges where we can continue to help.

It was a blessing to stand with members of the Longview Fire Department, and to thank eight members of the department who served to stand with Central Texas during the tragic floods that impacted that region earlier this summer. We presented the department with a commemorative flag, some challenge coins, and some cookies from The Butcher Shop as a special “thank you” for representing East Texas during a time of need of fellow Texans.
|
From Kilgore College to a meeting in Jefferson, to honoring the Longview Fire Department Water Rescue Team, one thing is clear: East Texans are engaged, resilient, and ready to lead.
And to all the parents out there gearing up for the new school year: I see you. Whether it’s picking up supplies, readjusting to routines, or praying your kiddos get the right homeroom teacher, I know this season brings a lot of moving parts. I’m right there with you, and I wish you and your families a smooth transition and blessed start to the school year!

NewsNation & Inside Texas Politics

Last Sunday, I joined NewsNation’s Morning in America to discuss the crisis in Gaza, President Trump’s trade deal with the EU, and China’s growing economic aggression. We covered a lot, including why Hamas must cease exploitation of aid in Gaza, and why any deal with China must include strict enforcement. Watch the full interview below.
|
I also recently joined WFAA’s Inside Texas Politics to talk about restoring trust through transparency, smart investments in rural infrastructure, and commonsense governance. We covered everything from my Rural Weather Monitoring Systems Act to why the public deserves access to the Epstein files. Catch the full conversation below.

We celebrated National Intern Day this week by recognizing the incredible young leaders who’ve served in our Washington, D.C. office this summer. These interns, from across TX-01, have brought energy, insight, and a deep commitment to public service. We’re grateful for their hard work, and proud to have had them on Team Moran. Applications for Spring 2026 are now open!

On August 1, 1961, Six Flags Over Texas opened its gates for a soft opening, marking the beginning of the Six Flags theme park chain. Located in Arlington, Texas, the park was named after the six flags that have flown over the state throughout its history.
