On June 13, America was mere inches from witnessing a tragic and devastating event in our nation’s history. I am thankful that President Trump survived the attempt on his life. I extend my condolences to the family of Corey Comperatore, who died a hero, keeping his family safe. Corey embodied the American spirit, regularly attending church every Sunday with his family and serving his community as a firefighter. We must never forget his name and continue to pray for his family, as well as others who were injured last Saturday, as they navigate through the aftermath of this horrific act. Even though we’ve seen this before, I am devastated by the fact that somebody would think that they would need to undertake this type of action inside of the political arena. Political dialogue is necessary and sometimes it is tough, but it should never reach the point of violence. We absolutely should settle these political matters on the debate stage with words and discussions over the tough issues that are facing America.
In response to the horrific attempt on President Trump’s life, House Republicans are acting swiftly to conduct oversight over the law enforcement agencies that were involved. House Oversight Chairman James Comer has called on Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle to publicly testify before his panel next week to answer questions of how this horrific act was allowed to happen. I strongly support these efforts to review security arrangements, address shortcomings, and ensure full transparency and accountability. Please join me in praying for President Trump, praying for Corey Comperatore’s family and community, the other victims hit by bullets and their families, and for our country.

Last Friday, I spent the day with the Texarkana Chamber of Commerce, meeting with local officials, business owners, health care workers and members of the community. We started with a breakfast presentation with the Chamber of Commerce and a tour of Pharma Nobis’ facility. Afterward, we went to the Cooper Tire Plant for a quick tour of the parts facility and a great discussion of the work they do and what needs to happen at the federal level to support them, particularly with workforce needs. We also toured the new Christus St. Michael West Emergency Center. I enjoyed seeing both new and familiar faces and speaking with folks about how I can be a voice for the First District in Washington, D.C. Below is a recap of my day in Texarkana!

Texarkana Chamber Breakfast – I was honored to attend a breakfast meeting with the Texarkana Chamber of Commerce, where I provided a legislative update and had a great conversation about a number of topics critical to the community. These issues included economic development, the Texarkana Airport, and the regulatory burdens our local businesses are facing. Since 1905, the Texarkana USA Regional Chamber of Commerce has been a vital partnership of businesses, organizations, and professionals working together to build a healthy economy and improve the quality of life in our community. I appreciated the chance to hear directly from local leaders about their concerns and priorities.

Cooper Tire Texarkana Plant – It was a pleasure meeting with representatives from Cooper/Goodyear at their Texarkana plant, which employs around 1,700 individuals. Opened in 1964, this facility manufactures passenger and light truck tires. Our discussions focused on crucial issues such as supply chain and workforce development, highlighting their continuous need for employees.

Christus St. Michael West Emergency Center – I was honored to be invited by CHRISTUS St. Michael Health System to get a tour of their new emergency center. Located at 4250 Gibson Lane in Texarkana, this 12,000-square-foot facility will provide 24/7 emergency services, featuring 12 treatment rooms, state-of-the-art full-service imaging, and onsite laboratory services for quick access to test results. This $17 million investment is designed for easy access and future development, and represents their continued commitment to expanding access to quality healthcare throughout the region.

Pharma Nobis – For more than 140 years, Pharma Nobis has been dedicated to providing the highest quality products and solutions to patients and pharmacists. Officially formed in 2022, Pharma Nobis has deep roots dating back to 1872 as Hutchison Medicine Company in Linden, Texas. Originally founded by J.C. Hutchison, the company evolved from selling remedies like Big Head Liniment to becoming a major manufacturer and distributor of first-aid products. Today, Pharma Nobis manufactures more than 150 products and remains focused on innovation and meeting patient needs, with approximately 100 employees. During our meeting, we discussed workforce challenges and the growth of our business. It was a pleasure to meet key members of their operations team during my tour.
