Dear Friends,
My prayers are with those who have been affected by Hurricanes Helene and Milton. East Texans are no strangers to severe weather. My team and I are closely monitoring the unfolding situation and thinking of our neighbors to the east in this difficult time. This week, my good friend, Representative Chuck Edwards (R-NC-11), joined KTBB Radio to discuss the latest Hurricane Helene update, as well as the relief efforts and how East Texans can help those impacted by the storm. Congressman Edwards represents one of the hardest-hit areas in North Carolina. To learn how you can help those impacted by Hurricane Helene, you can go to his website here and listen to his interview on KTBB here. To find ways to help in the aftermath of Hurricane Milton, I also encourage you to go to Congresswoman Laurel Lee’s (R-FL-15) website here for more information.

Reaffirming Support for Israel One Year After October 7th
|
52 weeks. 12 months. One year. That's how long it’s been since Hamas terrorists invaded Israel to slaughter, rape, mutilate, and kidnap men, women, children, and the elderly, including Holocaust survivors. As we look back on the destruction and terror the world witnessed on October 7th, 2023, we are reminded of the resilience and determination of our greatest ally in the Middle East. I remain committed to standing alongside Israel's fight for liberty over tyranny, life over death, and good over evil.
|
I co-sponsored Congressman Russell Fry’s (R-SC-07) resolution condemning Hamas gross acts of terrorism and commemorating the one-year anniversary of the heinous October 7th attack. As an original co-sponsor of this resolution, I joined my colleagues in calling for the immediate release of all hostages.

This week, I was joined by Congressman Tim Walberg (R-MI-05), my colleague on the Committee on Education and the Workforce, at Tyler Junior College (TJC) for a conversation on the importance of strong education policy. Our discussion was part of the Congressional Legislative Summit of the Texas Association of Community Colleges, which is chaired by Kilgore College President Dr. Brenda Kays. It was a pleasure to speak with community college presidents from across Texas.
As the only Texan serving on the House Committee on Education and the Workforce, I take seriously the responsibility to represent education stakeholders in every corner of our state. Those at the community college level know better than anyone that education, including degrees and credentials, prepare graduates to enter or remain in the workforce. Our community colleges are preparing people to enter the workforce, and we are pleased to stand together and support them in that effort. I look forward to continuing to support the efforts of our community colleges and to ensure we are producing a qualified, educated workforce to meet tomorrow’s demand. Thank you to Dr. Kays and TJC President Dr. Juan Mejia for hosting this incredible event.

On Tuesday at the Women’s Center of East Texas Conference, I had the honor of introducing someone who exemplifies courage, hope, and strength—Jenna Quinn. Over the past year, I have had the privilege of getting to know Jenna. She is an incredibly brave woman from Texas who survived sexual abuse as a young child. Now, she leads the charge to help prevent the evils of child sexual abuse and provide victims with pathways to healing.
Because of Jenna’s advocacy and dedication, her namesake legislation, Jenna’s Law, passed the Texas legislature, leading to more education for educators, students, and parents to help them identify early warning signs of child abuse. I was honored to introduce similar legislation on the federal level and to work alongside Jenna in her critical mission to fight for those who have experienced or are experiencing sexual abuse. Each life is precious, and every life deserves protection. You can read more about Tuesday’s event from the Longview News-Journal here.

Congratulating East Texas Radio Legend Paul Gleiser
|
For more than 30 years, Paul Gleiser has served our community over the radio waves, producing quality, informative, and thought-provoking content for East Texas listeners. Many East Texans recognize his vocal call, “On this day in history…”, and closely follow his segments, “You Tell Me Texas” and “Constitution Minute.” I have gotten to know Paul throughout the years, and with each interaction, I am left more impressed by his business acumen, love of country, and generous spirit. Paul was nominated to be inducted into the Texas Radio Hall of Fame Class of 2024, and it was only fitting that he was honored on the House floor for this well-deserved recognition. Congratulations, Paul—well done! You can watch my full remarks on the House floor here.

As we approach November, let’s remember that voting is not just a right—it is a responsibility. In a republic form of government, the power rests with the people, and that power is exercised primarily through voting. When we do not vote, we abdicate that power to those who do—and often to those who do not share our perspectives, beliefs, or values.
I recently wrote a column on the importance of “SALTY” elections—Secure, Accurate, Legal, Transparent elections with YOU involved every step of the way. You can read my full column in the Texarkana Magazine here.

Friday night football in East Texas simply can’t be beat! Last Friday, I had the pleasure of watching the Texas High Tigers in action. It was an inspiring evening, and Texas High represented East Texas with pride and excellence.
Pictured above are Jason Carter, TISD Director of Bands Arnie Lawson, and drum majors Sydney Swift, Xavier Briggs, and Tulsi Patel. They brought the house down with their incredible performances, representing the passion and spirit of East Texas high school football! Thanks for having me, and good luck to the Tigers for the rest of the season.
