Transcript:

As we gather together with our loved ones this Thanksgiving, I want to take a moment to express my deep gratitude to each of you for the trust you have placed in me over these past two years in office.

As my first term in Congress draws to a close, I reflect on the tremendous support that you have given me and my family, and I am grateful.

It’s truly an honor to serve what I believe is the best Congressional district in America – the First District of Texas – and to represent YOUR voice in the U.S. House of Representatives.

This Thanksgiving season reminds us of the importance of gathering with our family and friends to acknowledge the many blessings that God has bestowed upon us.

Let us be sure to keep our military service members and first responders in our prayers during this time of year, as they often spend these cherished holidays away from the warmth of their families and loved ones. May we never take for granted the sacrifices they make to allow us to celebrate Thanksgiving in peace and safety. Our gratitude goes to them and their loved ones during this holiday.

Let us also come together and pray for those who do not have anyone with whom they can spend this Thanksgiving. I know Thanksgiving can be lonely for many. So, let’s find ways to include others, and help them find comfort, joy, hope, and friendship during this Thanksgiving season.

Thanksgiving gives us the opportunity to reflect on the many blessings in our lives. I personally am thankful for my wife, Kyna, my four amazing kids, and all of my family and friends. And, I am also grateful for all of you who have entrusted me with the privilege and honor of representing you in Congress.

I challenge you to reflect on what you are thankful for, and if it includes someone near and dear to you, take a moment to let them know how much they mean to you. Words can have the power of life. So, let’s encourage, affirm, and uplift one another with words of thanks and appreciation.

Remember – Thanksgiving is not just a day; it is a practice. And, it should be our daily practice. Now, back to football, food, and family!

May God bless you all, and may God bless the great state of Texas.

Happy Thanksgiving, First District of Texas!

This Week in American History

Trump Turkey Pardon

On November 24, 2020, President Donald J. Trump continued the time-honored White House tradition of officially pardoning the National Thanksgiving Turkey!

2020’s candidates for National Thanksgiving Turkey were “Corn” and “Cob!” After a close vote, Americans chose “Corn,” a 42 lb. bird from Iowa, as the honoree.

Corn and Cob were raised by Ron Kardel, National Turkey Federation Chairman and a 6th generation turkey, corn, and soybean farmer from Walcott, Iowa! After the pardoning ceremony at the White House, both turkeys retired to their new home on the campus of Iowa State University.
