Dear East Texas,

After spending the last two weeks in Washington, D.C., I headed home to Texas to meet with our state legislators in Austin and business leaders across TX-01 to discuss issues affecting East Texans at both the federal and state levels.

Meeting with lawmakers in Austin is invaluable as the 89th Texas legislative session convenes. While the 119th Congress works to extend the Trump Tax Cuts, secure our border, and cut government waste, Texas Republicans are also working on many on these same priorities. It is crucial that we work together for the benefit of our joint constituents.

These conversations strengthen our coordination, ensure our priorities are aligned, and reinforce our shared commitment to the conservative policies that are shaping the future of Texas and the nation. As we work toward these goals, unity between federal and state leaders is key to delivering on the agenda set by President Trump, advancing conservative principles, and increasing liberty.

Honoring State Elected Officials and Legislators at the Northeast Texas Regional Alliance Reception

This week, state elected officials and legislators from the Northeast Texas region were honored at the Northeast Texas Regional Alliance Legislative Summit Reception. Leaders from Bowie, Cass, Delta, Franklin, Hopkins, Lamar, Morris, Red River, and Titus Counties were invited to attend, offering a unique opportunity for local community figures to engage with state lawmakers. This wonderful event provided a platform for discussing issues impacting the region and strengthening legislative collaboration between local and state leadership to continue advancing the interests of Northeast Texas.

Unleashing Texas Energy: Leading the Nation in Oil and Gas Production

I had the opportunity to meet with folks from Tyler-based Mewbourne Oil Company in the Permian Basin earlier this week. While touring the facilities, we discussed the importance of unleashing American energy to strengthen our economy and maintain our leadership in the global oil and gas market. As the largest producer of oil and gas in the U.S., Texas plays a critical role in our national economy. It’s essential that our energy producers be able to operate without the burden of excessive red tape.

A big thanks to the team at Mewbourne for the chance to tour their drilling rig and production facilities and to meet the hardworking crew members who are keeping Texas energy strong.

Texas Association of Business: Promoting the Power of Free Enterprise

On Tuesday, I met with the Texas Association of Business (TAB) to discuss key issues affecting millions of Texas taxpayers, families, and small businesses. Our conversation covered extending the Trump Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) and strengthening the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) which will lead to economic opportunities for businesses throughout Texas.

Thomas Jefferson

On February 17, 1801, Thomas Jefferson was elected the third president of the United States. By 1800, when he decided to run for president, Thomas Jefferson possessed impressive political credentials and was well-suited to the presidency. In addition to drafting the Declaration of Independence, Jefferson had served in two Continental Congresses, as minister to France, as secretary of state under George Washington and as John Adams’ vice president.
