Dear East Texas, This week, House Republicans took decisive action to fund the government for the remainder of Fiscal Year (FY) 2025. By passing this continuing resolution that maintains government operations without increasing the spending of taxpayer dollars, we are keeping our commitment to rein in spending while ensuring that the Trump Administration can continue its ongoing and critical efforts to root out waste, fraud, and abuse in Washington—protecting your hard-earned tax dollars.

Crucially, this funding also addresses shortfalls related to immigration enforcement operations and keeps U.S. Border Patrol and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents on the job, deporting criminal migrants and strengthening border security. By keeping the government running, we can focus on enacting real, lasting immigration reforms.
Ideally, we should pass our annual appropriations bills without the need for a continuing resolution. But, at this moment, it is important to focus our efforts on delivering a tax bill through the reconciliation process that will have greater long-term impact and benefit for the American taxpayer and then turn our attention to FY 2026 appropriations.
In contrast, nearly every House Democrat voted against this measure, choosing political obstruction over responsible governance. Their actions threaten small businesses, delay critical relief, and prioritize partisan theater over the needs of hardworking Americans. House Republicans remain committed to securing the border, cutting wasteful spending, and standing with President Trump to put America First. We will continue working to advance conservative budget priorities and restore law and order.

The COVID-19 pandemic provided an opportunity for criminals, both domestically and internationally, to take advantage of emergency unemployment programs, stealing up to $135 billion in taxpayer dollars. So far, only $5 billion has been recovered—less than 4%. Law enforcement is still investigating thousands of cases, but time is running out. Right now, the deadline to prosecute these fraudsters is only days away—with the statute of limitations running out on March 27, 2025. If Congress does nothing, many of these criminals will escape punishment, and taxpayers will never see that money again. This week, I spoke on the House Floor in support of Ways and Means Chairman Jason Smith’s (R-MO-08) Pandemic Unemployment Fraud Enforcement Act (H.R. 1156), legislation I was proud to cosponsor. This bill extends the statute of limitations for prosecuting these crimes from 5 years to 10 years, giving investigators more time to bring criminals to justice. Similar action has already been taken for other pandemic relief fraud, and this bill ensures we can hold all bad actors accountable.

House Republicans are committed to protecting taxpayer dollars and stopping fraud. We must pass this bill to recover stolen money and make sure criminals don’t walk free with your hard-earned dollars.

Last week, I joined the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Chairman John Moolenaar (R-MI-02), Ranking Member Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL-08), Congresswoman Ashley Hinson (R-IA-02), and business leaders to highlight China’s unfair trade practices that threaten American jobs and industries.
|
I am proud to support the Protecting American Industry and Labor from International Trade Crimes Act, introduced by my colleague, Congresswoman Ashley Hinson (R-IA-02). This critical legislation takes a stand against China’s repeated violations of trade laws and ensures that American businesses and workers are not undercut by foreign adversaries.
The best defense is a great offense. It’s long overdue for America to go on the offensive against the Chinese Communist Party. By empowering the Department of Justice to crack down on trade violations by Chinese and other foreign entities, we can deter these crimes before they happen, and punish those wrongdoers after it happens. This new task force would also strengthen our nationwide response to economic espionage, providing essential training and technical assistance to federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies to expand investigations and prosecutions. House Republicans remain committed to strengthening our economy, protecting American industries, and holding China accountable. Last week, I joined members of the U.S. Chamber and Texas Association of Business (TAB) to discuss how House Republicans are working with President Trump to revitalize our economy and advance the America First Agenda. From workforce development to pro-growth policies, we are committed to creating jobs, cutting burdensome government regulations, and ensuring businesses can thrive.
|
Last Friday’s jobs report confirms what Americans already know—Bidenomics was a failure. Businesses still face uncertainty, job growth has stalled, and Democrats continue to push for crippling tax hikes. House Republicans are taking action by unleashing American energy, cutting red tape, and extending tax cuts to support American workers.
|
Meanwhile, President Trump is already delivering results—securing billions in private-sector investments that will create tens of thousands of jobs. The path forward is clear: lower taxes, promote energy independence, and put American manufacturing first. House Republicans stand ready to deliver.

On March 9, 1862, the U.S.S. Monitor and C.S.S. Virginia fought to a four-hour draw off Hampton Roads, Virginia. Their iron hulls deflected cannon fire, and the Virginia eventually withdrew to Norfolk. Though neither ship was seriously damaged, the battle ended the Virginia's threat and marked the dawn of steam-powered iron warships.
