Dear Friends,
Three years ago, 13 brave American servicemembers made the ultimate sacrifice during the avoidable attack on the Abbey Gate in Kabul, Afghanistan. This tragedy resulted from the Biden-Harris Administration’s disastrous withdrawal, a catastrophic failure that jeopardized national security, emboldened terrorist threats, and left Americans and our allies stranded in Taliban controlled territory.

As a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, I remain committed to investigating this failure, ensuring transparency, accountability, and the implementation of policies that prioritize the safety and security of our nation and allies. Today in Congress, we have already held multiple Foreign Affairs Committee hearings on this issue. On September 9th, the House Foreign Affairs Committee will release our report from a three-year investigation into the Biden-Harris withdrawal from Afghanistan, which will highlight the Administration’s failure to prepare adequately, their disregard for U.S. personnel safety, and their responsibility for the deaths of 13 servicemembers in the Abbey Gate attack.
In recognition of the sacrifice of these American heroes, Speaker Mike Johnson, along with Leader Mitch McConnell, Senator Steve Daines, and Congresswoman Lisa McClain, will present the families of these servicemembers with the Congressional Gold Medal on September 10th in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda. This bipartisan, bicameral honor ensures that their legacies will live on, and that Congress fulfills its duty to never forget the sacrifices made by these courageous souls.

In recent months, the U.S. Supreme Court has issued major rulings that are critical to the defense and preservation of our conservative values. As an attorney and former County Judge, I know firsthand how foundational legal principles impact our communities and align with conservative moral principles. The two cases recently decided by SCOTUS protect women and girls and ensure we have what I like to call “SALTY” elections — Secure, Accurate, Legal, Transparent, with You involved.
First, the Supreme Court Justices have rightly frozen a Biden-Harris Administration regulation related to Title IX that attempted to expand the definition of “sex discrimination” at educational institutions to include sexual orientation and gender identity. This move effectively puts a stop to the Biden-Harris Administration's attempt to redefine sex while legal challenges are resolved. The decision is a crucial step in preserving the original intent of Title IX and ensures that biological men are not allowed to compete in women and girls’ sports or enter women and girls’ spaces such as bathrooms and locker rooms. Second, the Supreme Court has taken a huge stand for election integrity. This week’s decision reinstates a key part of Arizona's voter law that mandates documented proof of U.S. citizenship to register to vote for state elections. This ruling reaffirms the principle that voting in federal elections is a right reserved ONLY for American citizens. It protects the electoral process from abuse and counters the dilution of legitimate voters, ensuring that only eligible voters have a say in our democracy. We must have rigorous standards to maintain trust in our elections. This is a win for upholding the rule of law and ensuring that every vote cast is legitimate.

Earlier this week, I joined Logan Ratick on Newsmax, where we discussed the latest on several critical issues. I called out Vice President Kamala Harris for making unfounded claims about Trump’s tax policies and pointed out the lack of real policy discussion from the Left. I also discussed Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s endorsement of President Trump, seeing it as a major boost for his campaign, especially among disillusioned Democrats.
On foreign policy, I expressed strong support for Israel's preemptive strikes on Hezbollah, and condemned the Biden-Harris Administration's weakness, which has emboldened adversaries like Iran. I also emphasized the need to eliminate terrorist organizations and warned against the dangers of Iran's nuclear ambitions. In addition, we covered Operation Prosperity Guardian, stressing the importance of taking stronger actions against Iranian-backed Houthi forces and addressing the broader threat posed by Iran.

With college football top of mind, I joined Bill Coates on KTBB to discuss the ongoing challenges with the Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) situation in college sports. NIL in college sports has been grabbing many headlines, and while it is clear something needs to be done, solutions settled by Congress must be smart and well thought out before enacting legislation. Colleges and universities are finding it tough to manage these NIL deals, especially with agents now in the mix, and there’s a growing concern that the amateur spirit that has always been at the heart of college sports might be lost.
|
One of the key issues is whether to introduce federal legislation that would create a uniform standard for NIL deals across all states. Currently, over 30 states have enacted their own NIL legislation for college sports, leaving some schools at a disadvantage depending on their state’s laws. This has created a state-by-state arms race for preferential rules. A federal standard could level the playing field and provide clear guidelines for athletes, schools, and businesses alike. The most prominent piece of legislation in the Senate is Senator Ted Cruz's draft bill to codify NIL rights for college athletes, which aims to create a national standard for NIL deals, ensure transparency, and protect athletes. Meanwhile, in the House, Rep. Gus Bilirakis, along with Reps. Debbie Dingell and Sen. Ben Ray Luján, is developing the bipartisan FAIR College Sports Act to establish a national NIL framework. The act aims to protect student-athletes' rights to NIL compensation, ban pay-for-play schemes, ensure transparency in NIL deals, and create the U.S. Intercollegiate Athletics Commission (USIAC) to oversee regulations. The proposal is based on feedback from athletes, universities, and the NCAA, seeking to balance athletes' NIL rights with preserving the integrity of college sports. These bills focus on ensuring greater transparency, protecting student-athletes from exploitation by agents, and providing resources to help them navigate these complex agreements. Some are advocating for a national registry of NIL deals and agents, which would provide student-athletes with market transparency when presented with an NIL deal. I believe we need to tread carefully. The last thing we want to do is over regulate. My focus is on ensuring that these young men and women remain students first. Education should always come before athletics, and we must preserve the integrity and amateur nature of college sports. To listen to my full interview, click HERE.
