Dear East Texas,

This week, Congress reconvened to continue delivering House Republicans’ and President Trump’s full America First Agenda. Over the next three weeks, the House and Senate must come to an agreement on a budget resolution that will empower lawmakers to extend the Trump Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) which lowers taxes for families and small businesses, grows our economy, unleashes American energy, and ensures the government works for you—while rooting out waste, fraud, and abuse.

This past Sunday, we recognized and honored the 250th anniversary of Patrick Henry’s legendary speech, “Give Me Liberty, or Give Me Death.” If you haven’t read it, I highly encourage you to do so. In his speech, Henry emphasized that war with Britain was inevitable and urged immediate action. Similarly now, House Republicans understand the importance of acting decisively to enact a principled, conservative agenda. The budget resolution is a critical and timely step toward achieving these broader goals. Acting with urgency now will bring lasting benefits to the American people for generations.

All those years ago, Patrick Henry also appealed for collective strength, faith, and unity to confront a formidable adversary. House Republicans echo this theme by emphasizing collaboration and urging the Senate to join us in advancing a unified agenda. Hesitation and complacency are luxuries we cannot afford.

Another great American, General Douglas MacArthur, once said, “The history of failure in war can almost always be summed up in two words: ‘Too late.’ Too late in comprehending the deadly purpose of a potential enemy. Too late in realizing the mortal danger. Too late in preparedness. Too late in uniting all possible forces for resistance.” MacArthur’s words remind us that delayed action risks losing the moment entirely. This urgency applies directly to our work as Republicans in Congress. The opportunity to extend the Trump Tax Cuts must not slip through our fingers. Now is the time for Republicans to unite, act decisively, and secure lasting economic benefits for American families and businesses.

The next three weeks are pivotal. As a member of the Ways and Means Committee, I know the importance of focusing our efforts on delivering a tax bill through the reconciliation process that will have a long-term, positive impact for the American taxpayer. Complacency and inaction threaten small businesses, delay critical relief, and prioritize partisan theater over the needs of hardworking Americans.

House Republicans remain steadfast in our commitment to securing the border, cutting wasteful spending, and standing with President Trump to put America First. This is our Patrick Henry moment—a time to declare boldly that we are ready to act, prepared to face challenges, and unwilling to let opportunity pass us by. In learning from history, we can ensure this moment is remembered by actions, courage, and success—not regret. I look forward to delivering on this goal on behalf of East Texas and the American people.

Investing in the Next Generation of American Workers

Providing access to workforce development and training programs for students is vital to preparing the next generation for success. Too many students face barriers to education, training, and employment, and it’s crucial to create pathways that help them overcome these challenges.

That’s why I was proud to reintroduce the Building Youth Workforce Skills Act with Congressman Lloyd Smucker (R-PA-11). This legislation allows local workforce development boards to use existing Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) funds to provide Individual Training Accounts (ITAs) for eligible in-school youth from ages sixteen to twenty-one. These ITAs empower students by giving them a voucher to purchase training services from providers on a state’s eligible training provider list. While current law restricts ITAs to out-of-school youth, this bill would ensure in-school youth have access to the same opportunities—without increasing current spending levels.

As an East Texan, I’ve seen firsthand how critical workforce development is to the future of our local communities. Texas is already a leader in workforce innovation with the Department of Labor granting our state a waiver to allow in-school youth to use ITAs. According to the Texas Workforce Commission, 30% of in-school youth enrolled in postsecondary training programs in our state used ITAs to help fund their education. Expanding access nationwide builds on this success and ensures every young American has the chance to develop skills, pursue opportunity, and contribute to a thriving workforce.

I believe the next generation deserves the tools and resources needed to achieve their full potential. By empowering students today, we are investing in the future of our communities and ensuring our workforce remains strong for years to come.

Strengthening Partnerships with Northwest Louisiana

I had the pleasure of meeting with representatives from the Greater Shreveport Chamber, Caddo Parish, Military Affairs Council, and local industry leaders. It was a productive meeting, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to strengthen ties and collaborate on issues that matter to our neighboring districts.
