Dear [firstname],
Yesterday evening, I held my first Tele-Townhall as your Congressman. It was a successful event that reached over 4,700 constituents across the First District and I enjoyed having the opportunity to hear directly from East Texas about their most pressing issues. Together, we had valuable conversations about inflation, the crisis at our southern border, cutting reckless government spending, and House Republicans plans to address these issues.
Thank you to all who participated in yesterday’s Tele-Townhall – I look forward with speaking with you all again, soon.
During the townhall, I asked participants what they’d like to see House Republicans address next – inflation or illegal immigration? 30% of participants said inflation, while 70% of participants said to focus on border security and immigration. Rest assured, we are on top of both issues.

As President Biden’s border crisis continues to cost American taxpayers billions per year, I was proud to introduce my first piece of legislation this week – the Border Security Investment Act. This bill addresses East Texans concerns about our porous southern border by disincentivizing illegal immigration through a 37% remittance fee on certain money transfers originating here in the United States and going to the five nations who contribute most to illegal immigration. Specifically, this bill will target the millions of immigrants who enter our country illegally, use our resources without paying taxes, and then proceed to send American dollars back to foreign countries.
Under my proposed bill, revenue collected from this user-based remittance transaction fee is placed into two trusts, which are used solely for the purpose of border security. The first trust, the Border Security Trust Fund, is set aside for use at the federal level. Use of this fund is restricted to three things: salaries and wages for the brave men and women of Customs and Border Protection, adding physical barriers, and expanding detection technology. The second trust, the State Reimbursement Trust Fund, is set aside to reimburse states who have invested in additional border security enforcement measures in the form of deterring unlawful crossings, detecting unlawful activity and entry into the United States, and for gaining operational control of the southern border.
This legislation also recognizes the growing national debt and allocates any funding that exceeds $50 billion to the Treasury solely to address the national debt and reduce our deficit.
While there is still plenty of work to be done, this will be the first step in securing our border, and making sure that hard-working American taxpayers are not left footing the bill for the additional resources necessary to secure our border.

In September 2022, President Biden announced to the American people that the COVID-19 pandemic was over. Yet, his Administration and Democrat leadership has continued to utilize the pandemic as an excuse to fuel their wasteful government spending. This week, House Republicans worked to put a stop to that by passing H.R. 382 – the Pandemic is Over Act. It is time to fully reopen our economy for the American people and close the loopholes used by Democrats to continue their exorbitant spending spree.
In addition, House Republicans stood on behalf of our health care workers by passing H.R. 497 – the Freedom for Health Care Workers Act. This legislation seeks to end the requirement for healthcare personnel working for federal health programs to be vaccinated against COVID-19. At this point, I am hopeful that we can agree that any decision to take the COVID-19 vaccine should be a voluntary decision between a patient and their chosen medical professional. Continued mandates for health care workers is not consistent with our values of liberty.

Every day, brave first responders from across East Texas suit up, not knowing what the day may have in store but being prepared to assist the moment emergency strikes. It was a pleasure having the opportunity to attend the First Responder Prayer Force Banquet in Marshall this past weekend. Together, the Harrison County community prayed over our first responders, while thanking them for their selfless service to our community. Thank you, First Responders!!
And, a special thank you to Lance Wallnau, one of the leading evangelical voices in today’s political climate, for joining us and leading the event.

As the father of 4 school-aged children, I understand how vital it is for parents and families to have a leading voice in their children’s education. The power of choice is important, and I was proud to stand in support of National School Choice Week. My full speech on the House Floor can be seen by clicking HERE, or clicking below.

As your voice in Congress, I will continue to advocate for parents — not the federal government, to make the educational decisions they deem best for their children. We are blessed in East Texas to have so many dedicated educators in our Pre-K through 12 arena - whether in our public, private, parochial, charter, or home schools. Thank you to all of our educators!

Today marks the 20th anniversary of the Columbia Space Shuttle disaster that forever changed East Texas.
On this day, we lost seven of our bravest and brightest as the space shuttle, Columbia, disintegrated over East Texas upon reentry, following a nearly 16-day mission in Space. Immediately following this tragic event, East Texans sprung into action to work alongside NASA personnel to collect debris from the shuttle.
These efforts were led by Michael Leinbach, who was determined to bring the space shuttle, and her crew, home one last time. Thank you to Michael and all those who volunteered throughout East Texas on this recovery effort.
I honored Columbia’s crew, and the recovery efforts in East Texas that followed, on the House Floor. My full speech is available by clicking HERE, or on the video below.
