Friends, One of the many things I am grateful for each time I’m back home in the First District is the friendliness and steadiness of East Texans. Despite all the turmoil going on in the world, I can always count on East Texans for their unwavering spirit and sense of community that defines the First District. One of the hallmarks of East Texas is the genuine warmth and friendliness of its residents. From the small, rural towns to our bigger cities, East Texans have a reputation for their open hearts and welcoming nature. It is this sense of community that makes our region so unique and special. Whether it’s lending a helping hand to a neighbor in need, organizing local fundraisers, or simply offering a friendly smile to a stranger, East Texans embody the true meaning of southern hospitality. East Texas is full of small businesses and family-owned restaurants that are a true manifestation of the American dream and community supporting community. It is this spirit of kindness, compassion, and unity that strengthens our communities and brings us together during times of adversity. While visiting Eastman Credit Union last week, there was a small store full of Pine Tree High School merchandise. It was fortuitous since my alma mater, Whitehouse, was playing Pine Tree that night in football. So, I decided to buy a Pine Tree shirt to show my support for both schools in the Congressional district. During the game, I spent some time on the Whitehouse side dressed in maroon cheering on the Wildcats (and my favorite French horn player—my daughter, Victoria) before my youngest son and I walked over to the Pine Tree side, where I proudly wore my new yellow pirate shirt to cheer on the Pirates. The Pine Tree students, staff, administration, and board were magnanimous hosts. It’s such an honor to represent both extraordinary schools. There’s nothing like Friday Night Lights, good ol’ Texas hospitality, and great gridiron competition.

East Texas has faced its fair share of challenges, from natural disasters to economic downturns. Yet, through it all, East Texans have shown remarkable resilience and strength. In times of crisis, we come together, supporting one another and building our communities up, together. The sturdiness and determination of East Texans is truly remarkable and serves as an inspiration to us all. In a world that often seems divided and uncertain, East Texas stands as a beacon of hope. We are a region that values hard work, faith, and family. We believe in the power of community and the importance of standing together, no matter the circumstances.

I had a great time this past weekend attending the Longview Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Chamber Classic Golf Tournament! It was a great opportunity to say hello to business and community leaders who are actively working to grow the Longview economy. The chamber’s drive to serve others is inspiring and their hard work is an example to all. Thank you, Longview Chamber of Commerce, for all the great things you do for Longview and surrounding areas.

While in Hallsville over the weekend, I dined at Miss Minnie’s and met the husband and wife duo who own and operate the classic, southern diner. I had a delicious home cooked meal and enjoyed meeting with Hallsville Chamber Director Matt Folmar, the Superintendent of Hallsville Schools John Martin, Mayor Jesse Casey, Seth Necessary from 92.3 FM The Depot, and members of the Hallsville Chamber. The place was packed, and I can see why. If you’re in the Hallsville area, stop by Miss Minnie’s Place to try their meatloaf or chicken fried steak (or anything else on the menu)!

In Hallsville, I also stopped by Buchanan’s Feed Store, which has been owned and operated by the same family for almost 50 years. It was truly heartwarming to witness the dedication and knowledge passed down through the years from father to son. And, I enjoyed hearing the stories of how the business grew from just a little pharmacy to now a longstanding pillar of the community that helps keep Hallsville growing.

While visiting Hallsville, I stopped by Guaranty Bank & Trust and Community Bank to chat with the owners and staff about how Congress can support small, community banks, as well as give an update on government spending and the strength of the U.S. dollar. Both of these banks are committed to serving the Hallsville community through personalized financial services and support to the local economy. It was so inspiring to see the lasting impression these two banks have left on so many families and small businesses in the Hallsville community. I am grateful for the opportunity to engage with such outstanding institutions that play a vital role in East Texas’ growth and prosperity.
