East Texas Boosts Exports to Canada

I enjoyed attending a ceremony with the American Canadian Economy and Security (ACES) Caucus at the Canadian Embassy in Washington, D.C., where the First District was recognized for exceeding $1 billion in exports to Canada. Thank you to the Canadian Ambassador, H.E. Kirsten Hillman, for hosting and celebrating the strong partnership between the First District of Texas and Canada.

Standing in Solidarity with Israel on the Foreign Affairs Committee

This week, I was pleased to cosponsor a bipartisan resolution (H. Res 771) standing with Israel as it continues to rightly defend itself against the barbaric war launched by Hamas. On Wednesday, the House approved the resolution in a strong show of support for our ally, Israel.

Last week, the House Foreign Affairs Committee passed 12 strong, foreign affairs bills. Many of these bills focus on fighting back against Iran and its proxies who are evading sanctions and spurring terrorism in the Middle East. The SHIP Act, which I cosponsor, requires the president to impose sanctions on ports and refineries that receive and process Iranian oil. The current administration has been weak in their foreign policy. Therefore, as Iran evades sanctions and continues to aid terrorist organizations like Hamas and Hezbollah, it’s important that we as a nation understand the need to establish these rules and regulations so we can fight against terrorist organizations.

Celebrating the City of Carthage's 175th Anniversary

Over the weekend, Carthage, Texas celebrated its 175th anniversary with the Carthage Heritage Festival. The festival was filled with fun events for kids, good eats, and joyful celebrations for all. Congratulations to 175 years! This remarkable milestone is a testament to the resilience, spirit, and rich heritage that has shaped the community of Carthage over the years. The city’s commitment to fostering a strong sense of community and preserving its unique heritage is truly admirable.

A Rosy Tradition in East Texas

This year, Tyler, Texas celebrated its 90th Texas Rose Festival. Known as the “Rose Capitol of America” and as the home to the largest municipal rose garden in the country, Tyler has an extensive history with the Rose industry. By the 1940s more than half of the U.S. supply of rose bushes was grown within ten miles of Tyler. In 1933, the thriving rose business gave rise to the Tyler Rose Festival. It was first organized by Tyler Garden Club members, local rose growers, and the Chamber of Commerce to showcase the importance of the rose industry to Tyler. Here’s to many more years filled with growth and prosperity for generations to come.

The East Texas Yamboree

In celebration of the sweet potato (also known as the “yam”) Upshur County gathered last weekend to celebrate the former cash crop! The event’s festivities draw in East Texans and tourists each year with the Queen’s Coronation Pageant, carnival, and multiple parades.
