Dear [firstname],
As the proud father of four children – two boys and two girls, I understand that they are different. They were created differently, and it is these differences that make our kids—both boys and girls—special gifts from God, ready to fulfill their specific call in this world. With the recent rise of male athletes deciding to participate in women’s athletics, House Republicans took a stand to protect the integrity of women’s sports by passing H.R. 734, the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act.
This legislation directly pushes back against President Biden’s Tile proposed new rule that would prohibit public schools from banning male athletes from competing in women’s programs. Title IX intended to prohibit sex-based discrimination and to allow for equal opportunities for women, but Biden’s proposed new rule goes directly against this intent, and undermines the very purpose of Title IX.
The consequences of the Biden Administration’s decision to ignore the biological differences between male and female athletes threatens women’s opportunities in sports (and further erodes a basic truth in life—that men and women were created differently). I was proud to stand alongside my colleagues to protect the rights of female athletes and safeguard their abilities to fairly participate in the athletic arena – without intrusion by males.

Farmers and ranchers from across East Texas work dutifully to keep our communities fed, clothed, and empowered. Last week, I had the opportunity to visit with local, state, and national leaders in Agricultural policy – including representatives from the Texas Farm Bureau and the Texas Agricultural Lifetime Leadership Program, Cohort XVIII.
During discussions with the Texas Farm Bureau, we spoke about the Biden Administration’s harmful Green New Deal style policies and their impact across East Texas – including their contribution to raging inflation, which has driven up the cost of inputs and harmed our local supply chains.
Thank you to these leaders for taking the time to meet with me in Washington – I am appreciative of your hard work and look forward to supporting legislation that will strengthen the agricultural industry.

As the weather warms up, I traveled south to tour Sam Rayburn Lake and meet with local wildlife and conservation officials, including regional leaders from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Together, we discussed the importance of Lake Sam Rayburn as an importance source of recreation and revenue for the region, as well as its ability to provide reliable energy to the region. What a beautiful gem we have in our District with Lake Sam Rayburn.
I have re-offered legislation previously offered by our former Congressman, the Public Water Supply Invasive Special Compliance Act, which was originally crafted in response to the increasing prevalence of Zebra Mussels in other bodies of water that share a border between Texas and other states. My legislation exempts water transfers from public bodies of water in Texas, Louisiana, and Arkansas from certain federal restrictions – requiring that the transferred water immediately be transferred to a treatment facility that will remove all prohibited species. In essence, it more fully opens up our ability to use the water resources in Lake Sam Rayburn.
Thank you to Reece Nelson of the US Army Corps of Engineers, in addition to his team, for guiding me around the lake and taking the time to discuss challenges facing the lake. I will continue advocating for East Texas lakes and am looking forward to spending more time along the water this summer.

Thank you to the world-famous Kilgore Rangerettes for the warm welcome Monday afternoon ahead of a tour of Kilgore College. They are a great example of discipline, hard work, and poise. These are qualities that will lead them all to great heights. I enjoyed meeting with President Dr. Brenda Kays, the Leadership Team, and representatives from the Student Government Association to discuss my work on the House Committee on Education and the Workforce on behalf of the students, faculty, and administration.
Since entering Congress earlier this year, I have worked to strengthen our institutions of higher learning by supporting legislation – such as the PELL Act, which would expand education and credentialing opportunities for prospective workers who are looking to gain skills in high-demand fields.
As the cost of college continues to increase, it is important to highlight the value that our community colleges provide students. It is both exceptional and affordable. Specifically, these institutions primarily enroll students from surrounding areas, who - following graduation - enter the local workforce.

Tucked away in Henderson is the Fraser Sawmill, the highest producing location of West Fraser. West Fraser was founded by the Ketcham brothers in 1955 and is one of the leading global producers of lumber in the world. The Henderson Lumber Mill, originally built in the 1940’s, became a part of West Fraser in 2007 and is currently in the midst of a $255 million expansion that will expand the existing mill’s production capacity, improve systems and technology, and create more high-quality jobs for East Texans.
Thank you to Rob Hughes, of the Texas Forestry Association, for joining me for this tour and leading me throughout the region.
