The state of our union is not how President Biden portrays it. Despite his claim that America is on the right track, we know differently. Thanks to his administration, we have a porous southern border, rising inflation, out-of-control spending, and our standing in this world as a strong and steady leader is deflating with each passing balloon. Instead of taking responsibility for these failures, he chooses to ignore the issues or shift blame. If you watched the State of the Union address, you know that he openly declared war on the oil and gas industry, free markets, small businesses, and your pocket book.

House Republicans have been pushing back since day one to try to stem the tide of this runaway administration. Republicans understand that we must work together—without compromising our principles, by finding areas of consensus. Surely, the President can do the same. But, I am not holding my breath.

Despite the rose-colored picture President Biden is attempting to paint, the American people know his policies are wrong-headed and harmful to our future as a nation. For my full statement regarding yesterday evening’s State of the Union address, please click HERE.

Working for East Texans

House Republicans are working to ensure that we are putting the American people, and their concerns, first.

Last week, we formally denounced socialism on the House Floor – an amendment which over 100 Democrats disappointingly voted against. We worked toward sending our federal employees back to work for the American people, ending COVID-19 vaccination mandates for our federal healthcare workers, and getting to the bottom of President Biden’s border crisis.

In addition to being your voice in Congress, I had the opportunity to serve my colleagues as the Speaker Pro Tempore – presiding over the House Floor for the first time, last week.

It is an honor to serve the American people and promote East Texas values in Washington.

Securing our Southern Border

Good fences make good neighbors. Under the Biden Administration, our southern border is wide open for both illegal immigration and illegal drugs. I joined Fox & Friends First last week to discuss what House Republicans are doing to put an end to this and restore safety and security across our nation.

As the crisis at our border continues to impact our nation, I was proud to introduce the Border Security Investment Act. This legislation will target the immigrants who entered our nation illegally, utilize our resources without paying taxes, then turn around and send American dollars abroad. I am proud also to stand with Rep. Chip Roy on his bill (H.R. 29) that simply mandates that we enforce the law by either detaining or returning those who cross our borders illegally.

Honoring Adopt-A-Highway Founder, Bobby Evans

Last weekend, James Robert “Bobby” Evans, known as the father of the Adopt-A-Highway program, passed away.

For 42 years, Bobby served Texans as an engineer with the Texas Department of Transportation. While he lived across the state throughout his career, it was while serving as the District Engineer in Tyler that Bobby developed the Adopt-A-Highway program. This program encouraged local groups of volunteers to “adopt” a segment of highway, keeping that section free of litter. This program has seen tremendous success and has been adopted across the world.

Bobby will be missed, and his impact never forgotten. My prayers are with his family and loved ones.
