Stimulus Brings $218 Million in Federal Contracts to NoVa

Moran welcomes creation of 466 jobs

October 15, 2009 – Congressman Jim Moran welcomed preliminary data released today highlighting the positive effects of the federal stimulus in Northern Virginia.

“These numbers show the stimulus is having its desired effect,” said Moran. “While only one-tenth of the funding has been spent, its already created 466 jobs and infused over $218 million into local businesses in Northern Virginia.  These results provide optimism that, as the stimulus funds continue to be allocated over the next 12 to 18 months, more jobs will be created and our economy will receive substantial benefit.”

In the first seven months, the stimulus created or saved 1 million jobs nationwide, according to government and expert analyst estimates. A comprehensive report on the entire Recovery Act monies is due out October 30.
