Moran Welcomes SAIC Expansion in NoVA

HQ will bring $25 million, create 1,200 new jobs

September 24, 2009 – Congressman James P. Moran, Northern Virginia Democrat, welcomed the national headquarters of Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) to Northern Virginia today. The leading defense and technology firm announced it will relocate its corporate headquarters from San Diego to its current campus in McLean, Virginia. The action will add to approximately 17,500 SAIC employees currently working in the metropolitan region, creating 1,200 new jobs and injecting $25 million into the local economy over the next three years.

“Governor Kaine and local leaders were instrumental in making this day possible,” said Moran. “SAIC’s relocation merely affirms Forbes.com decision to again name Virginia the best state in the nation to do business.  By working together, we’ve been able to attract some of the best, most dynamic companies in the world to Northern Virginia.”

SAIC’s approximately 45,000 employees serve customers in the U.S. Department of Defense, the intelligence community, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, other U.S. Government civil agencies and selected commercial markets.  SAIC reported annual revenues of $10.1 billion for Fiscal Year 2009.

The Congressman worked with Governor Tim Kane, local elected officials, the Virginia Economic Development Partnership, and the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority to help secure SAIC’s HQ relocation to Northern Virginia.
