Moran honored with Phyllis Campbell Newsome Award

Center for Nonprofit Advancement recognizes nearly two decades of work

Washington D.C.- Congressman Jim Moran accepted the Phyllis Campbell Newsome Award from the Center for Nonprofit Advancement today for his efforts on behalf of the region’s nonprofit service organizations. Representatives of more than 200 groups recognized the Congressman for his nearly two decades of work to strengthen the nonprofit community in Northern Virginia and the metro Washington D.C. region. Among other activities, Moran convenes a community-wide Grants & Nonprofit Conference annually and maintains a nonprofit resource center on his website.

“I am pleased and honored to accept this award. Nonprofits like those represented by the Center play an important role in serving the under-served in the region,” said Moran. “Giving voice to a diversity of interests and causes, the nonprofit community is, in a sense, a microcosm of American society. When we support it, we enrich our democracy.”

The Center for Nonprofit Advancement works to strengthen, promote and represent nonprofit organizations in the metropolitan Washington D.C. region, helping them serve the diverse needs of their communities.  Founded in 1979 and originally called the Washington Council of Agencies, the Center currently serves more than 800 organizations.
