Marshal Legacy Institute Honors Moran

  Congressman recognized for his leadership on human rights
 

October 22, 2009− The Marshal Legacy Institute presented Congressman Jim Moran, Virginia Democrat, with its 2009 Public Policy Award at a ceremony Wednesday night for his for his work on human rights. The Congressman received the award at the Fund’s annual Clearing the Path Gala, which seeks to promote awareness of landmine issues and the Institute’s international work.

“This award is a great honor,” said Congressman Moran, “but the real recognition should go to the Marshal Legacy Institute for its ongoing efforts to reduce human conflict and suffering around the world.”

The Public Policy Award is given to one individual each year in recognition of his or her extraordinary efforts to foster a safer, more peaceful world. Congressman Moran received the honor for his promotion of human rights and animal rights.

 “Congressman Moran’s dedication to local public service committees and his two decades of honorable leadership and representation of the people enhance his storied Congressional record, which reflects a commitment to the resolution of humanitarian crises around the world,” said the Marshal Legacy Fund in a statement announcing the selection.

Background on the Marshall Legacy Institute (MLI): MLI is a nonprofit founded to restore hope, alleviate suffering, and nurture stability in war-torn countries. Their mission is to apply practical solutions to assist countries in easing the scourge of landmines. By providing mine detection dogs, management training, and mine awareness education they have had great success reducing suffering and restoring hope to people, especially children, in war-torn countries. MLI also uses innovative technologies to improve the quality of life of landmine survivors.
