Statement on BAE Incident in Alexandria

Washington, D.C., May 6th – Congressman Jim Moran, Virginia Democrat, issued the following statement regarding yesterday’s incident at BAE’s Systems Testing Facility on Duke Street in Alexandria.  Testing on an experimental technology shook the building’s foundation which housed a number of other tenants, including the Happy Home Child Learning Center.

“I’ve spoken with the President of BAE’s Electronic Solutions division and he has assured me that the experiment which caused yesterday’s disruption will no longer take place at that facility.  The facility has been temporarily shuttered and a full, independent assessment of the building’s structural integrity including a plan to fix any problems that are found must be submitted for approval by the Alexandria Fire Department in the next ten days.

“I deeply sympathize with those upset and unnerved by the disturbance, especially the parents of children located at the day care.

“I want to let all those who were affected to know that I will continue monitoring this situation but have full faith in BAE’s ability and sincere efforts to do what’s right and prevent this sort of unfortunate situation from ever happening again.”
